How to help a buyer with wrong address

I have a buyer email me said she gave me a wrong address for apt unit (instead E she put D) which she got from her landlord. Item shows delivered more than 1 week ago. She said it must be delivered to her neighbor in unit D. But when she checked with her neighbor, her neighbor denied she got any package.

Is there anything I can do for this?

Thank you.

Did you have Signature confirmation?

Re: How to help a buyer with wrong address

Signature is only required if over $750.00

If they go to ebay, ebay will side with the seller if the buyer put the wrong address. 100% every time.

Yes, I added signature confirmation and USPS website shows it is signed by her.

99.99% she is lying.

If it shows signed by HER, then she is trying to pull a fast one and get her money back. When you sign for a package, they make you put your first and last name, signature and address. Go onto USPS website, put in the tracking number, then click where it says proof of delivery. It will send you an email with the scanned signature slip, showing the information the recipient filled out.

Anything over $100, I put signature confirmation on. Every single time. This is to cover my ass and is well worth the $2 (if shipping by USPS). Now, with that said...USPS is pretty horrible at "tracing" anything and they say you will receive a call in 24-48 hours from the inspector but you never do. They could give a **** less.

Who signed for the package, the neighbor or the buyer?

in any case, you will want to NOT point fingers.

you can recommend them to open a case, and just let them know it is policy, that you want to make sure they are taken care of but cannot refund yourself.

ebay will side with you the seller, but they will likely grant a one time courtesy refund for the buyer. It will be worth to explain this process, as you cannot afford to just hand out money

best of luck

Re: How to help a buyer with wrong address

If she put the wrong address, the fault is hers.

You have done your job shipping to the confirmed paypal address.

You will win any case. I would be polite and helpful but there really is only so much you,can do.

She signed for it. But she said somebody forged her signature. I have USPS sent a proof to her. She asked me if she should report to police.

I am going to tell you AGAIN....she is pulling the wool over your eyes. Seriously. What does the signature slip say?? Does it show HER address!? Furthermore, she WOULD NOT put the wrong address down, because the address it was sent to is most likely the address she registered with and has been receiving packages at since registering. Not many people input an address when paying on ebay/paypal. It is auto-filled. Lastly, I am pretty sure she has been typing her address long enough buying things online that she doesn't make a mistake and put down "E" instead of "D". I still say she's pulling the wool over your eyes....trying to get a police report. What a load of hooey. She wants to have "evidence" on her side so when she reports to ebay, they will side with her. Don't be naive.

You have an upper hand with this case. Be careful with your correspondence, it can be used against you. eBay will check:
1. Was item shipped?
2. Was there a tracking number?
3. Was item delivered?
4. (Bonus) signed by recipient ...
You are totally covered.

Even if you lose this case, it will never count against you. eBay will remove the defect.

Re: How to help a buyer with wrong address

I have USPS sent her signature to her. She has not contacted me since then. Finger crossed.

She said it must be her neighbor took all her online purchase. Her original location is UK. Not sure how long she has been in this address.

I did not request signature at first place, then I changed my mind and added signature confirmation.

I don't see why Ebay will back her since she said she put wrong address and USPS has her signature.

You are doing the right initial steps in communicating well with your buyer

Hard to say. Can be an utter waste of time especially if dealing with a con artist.
A very rough idea of how I handle these things.
Hello,
I am very sorry to hear that you can not locate you item. As you can see from this tracking number xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx at usps.com it was delivered to you. Although I am protected as a seller for all items under $750.00 without a signature, I still used signature confirmation.

Please do whatever you need to do to protect yourself! If someone stole your items, please by all means call the police. Also contact ebay and paypal for assistance. Also, please visit your local post office and have a talk with the Post Master directly.

I am very sorry that your items can not be located. Please be assured that I have gone up and beyond ebay, paypal, and usps to make sure your items arrived safely.
Thank you and please let me know the outcome and if you have any further specific questions.
The details are:
Buyers shipping address
USPS.com and tracking number

Re: How to help a buyer with wrong address

If seller sent package to a verified address, and it is marked as delivered in the tracking info, EB will protect the seller. So it actually does not matter what you will say to the buyer, as he messed it up. But, of course, your attempts to help are good. But it seems that a police should be invited.
