I've read the Stealth Book and went through the forums but still a bit confused. At the bottom of the eBay page, it shows a link that says cookies. I clicked it and read through it. It states that they have ability to get the device used info and a unique ID. Are they referring to the MAC address on the actual computer? I know many people on here say eBay cannot read your MAC address but another member made a solid case that they can read it if you installed a java applet for use in printing labels directly through eBay. I used to print that way and installed a java applet. Does anyone on here know for sure if eBay can see a computers MAC address or not? If installing java applet for printing enables them to see MAC of the actual device, many people will get linked to old accounts without realizing it.

just to help you out. ebay nor any other company can read the mac address of your NIC card. its just not possible.
ive been working as a network engineer for a while, and you can see from the books as well, like CCNA and CCNP books (specialised networking books) that there is no way you can. if there was it would be written in these books.
hope that helps

That's what I thought too. The only way for them to read your mac address is if you install a program/software on your computer/device, but with a browser only, they cannot see your mac address.
They wouldnt bother with such methods which are fairly outdated.
If anything they would start tracking computer by using 'browser fingerprints'. A much more difficult thing to get around. If you don't know what Im talking about google it.

It will show you exactly what they can see from the browser. Keep in mind, this does NOT apply to anything they can see through any apps, or through flash cookies, etc.
Good topic. So eBay applet on android and ios can be traced but via new browsers like chrome it can't be.. useful as I didn't know they could via the eBay app, that's why they got me! Been stealth for a while until I used the app an old blocked account used..
Ebay/PayPal/Amazon cannot read the MAC addresses of devices, this has been clarified over and over again many times now and nothing has happened recently to change that, it does not matter what ebay says on their pages, this is still the case.
Thanks everyone for good info. Can eBay read MAC address by opening an email? I did a password reset request and they sent me an email that I accidentally opened using my iphone. The problem is that I used the iphone for my old suspended account. I do clear cookies etc every night though.
No they can see your IP address with beacons in the picture. Disable images on iPhone easy.
Settings>Mail, contacts, calendars>load images. Switch that off. Yes there are many threads ebay app is dangerous they have access to all your information.
So browser fingerprinting can be minimized by using chrome? How sure are you of this?

So you're saying because I opened the email, eBay now has my IP from the same iphone that I used with a suspended account? I'm linked? As far as I can remember, the email didn't have a picture. It just had a link for resetting password which I didn't click on.
If you did not click on anything in that email on your iPhone you will probably be ok, but you should have other stealth accounts ready made and being nurtured along on the sidelines just in case. You woukd have to activate something within that email on the iPhone for them to have had a chance to pick up on your IP address.

What are protection methods for browser fingerprinting? Anything?
either vary your add-ons per user, or remove some add-ons, or remove some/all elements completely, fonts are identifying....also you can change what your browser/OS string appears as, with certain apps.....
