Requirement to link PayPal with your EBAY?

have to link it to a PayPal account or is that standard stuff now?

Thanks!!!

aspkin 07-31-2007 02:27 AM

Not today, but my accounts in the past have not had to do this. The only other time when I was asked to do link is with the items I listed.

Why would you need to link to paypal? You only need to do that if you're outside the US.

JackNoMore 07-31-2007 11:30 AM

Or you want to offer buy it now on a low feedback account. Or you want to sell internationally.

vruter 07-31-2007 01:03 PM

I don't know...it is just what I am getting.

I thought it might be a new policy. Thanks for your replies!

This isn't true.. at least not about selling internationally. I ship worldwide and my feebay/paypal accounts are NOT linked.

I may be the dumbest guy on the board...but for the life of me I can find where you check to see if ship worldwide is checked. I went to Preferences and looked for shipping but I don't see anything. I am seriously about to give up!

i am having same problem... on a new account (2 month old), i tried to list the first item, and its already giving me this stupid MUST LINK message...

by eBay rules, you only need FB of 5, to offer BIN with quantity of 1, using auction format... IF you accept PP on your listing.

i have FB of 5-10 on a new account, created using AOL, US account, and want to sell on US ebay (Not internationally)... Im accepting paypal using ebay email added to old verified Paypal account. I dont want to link as that will prob get me suspended.

will this requirement go away eventually or what? what should i try? listing some auction style listings first?

Chris Hanson 09-19-2007 10:38 AM

Are you trying to do a BIN or just flat out sell?

The only reason they ask you to link to a verified Paypal is because your trying to sell a highly counterfeited item/bootleg item.

JackNoMore 09-19-2007 10:44 AM

That's partially right. They will ask the same if you're trying to sell internationally (ie NOT WORLDWIDE) on a new account. Regardless.

Chris Hanson 09-19-2007 10:49 AM

Humm, I tried to do Canada and US and clicked I have my own merchant account but it still asked me to link Paypal.

I'm like I only stay right next to Canada. Canada is right in my backyard

JackNoMore 09-19-2007 10:49 AM

During what timeframe did this change take place? The last couple months? The last year? So far I've discovered no such problem *knock on wood* Perhaps this only becomes an issue when you're already in their crosshairs. If this is indeed true, I am going to need to do some upkeep very soon. Given the lesser of two evils, I suppose it would be preferable to slowly change all your user information at that paypal account than start all over. That is--unless they do keep a back record and nothing is ever truly deleted.

Today I solve this by NOT allowing PP AT ALL - and clicking that I have my own merchant account.

That's one way around it, but if you want to offer a buy it now in the early goings at least you'll still need to link.

JackNoMore 09-19-2007 10:55 AM

Think of it this way: Would you rather purchase in your own currency or another countries'? And aside from personal preference, some areas do not have easy access to other currencies. It's an extra hardship on them which in turn will lead to less interest.

JackNoMore 09-19-2007 11:02 AM

It can be worth it.
