What do you normally do in this situation ?

I just received a message from a buyer, " Dear xxxxx,

I need to change the shipping address; when I placed the order it shows the wrong address. Please ship to xxxxxxxxxxxx.

Transaction ID: xxxxx

Let me know if you have any questions. I thank you and apologize for the mistake.

- xxxxx

The buyer has an account from 2005 but only 6 feedback with 1 purchase recent and the rest 6 months+ Ago

The item price is only $70 and the cost is low

Previously I'd get this not often and would just say ok, but please if there is any issue message me direct like your are now and please do not open a case without talking to me first

And this hasn't happened a lot

What I'm concerned now is with the new rules, if I were to be firm and say we only ship to a verified paypal address and you need to change the address first before the purchase , would I get a defect if I decided to refund the payment make them verify the correct address first with their paypal and than pay again

Because if I'd refund the payment it would be looked at as I cancelled the order and if get a defect correct?

I'm probably just going to let it go, I just have a feeling that it will come back to bite me eventually, but will I get an automatic defect by refunding and making them re do the transaction?

I just ship it to their newer address.....unless the item is over $100 I don't.

When you cancel a transaction you choose the reason for it. If you select the one stating the buyer wanted it or there was an issue with the shipping address (I believe that the way its worded) then you do not get a defect for the transaction.
Theres always the possibility of the buyer then leaving you a negative feedback though.

Cancel the order stating something wrong with buyers address then ask them to reorder with the correct address

Should be fine from there.

I mean if the address is in the same city and zip code you can also just input that tracking number in as long as it shows delivered to the similar zip code

Slokors advice is sound to avoid a defect.

Buyer can then reorder with the correct address.

For the items i send tracked (ie more expensive) i always do this as you would not be covered by seller protection if you send to the other address.

For items i send untracked it doesnt make a difference what address you send to.

Most buyers are understanding when you do this, i habe not received a neg feedback ever. Infact most leave positive even if they decide not to order using the correct address.

While I LIKE Slokor's advice, I would just let it go. The item price is not worth the hassle. I have not had many of these requests, but the ones I do have never resulted in a refund or a scamming buyer.

Now, if I were selling iPhones or other electronics, or items that were expensive or attracted scammers, that would be different.

I had this like a month ago, the guy sent a message to my email that is connected to my Shipping service. He was pretty mad that i sent it to the wrong address, so i reshipped the item same day i got the message.

Yea that's what I did and always have, I just politely ask if any issues to contact me first because I lose seller protection when changing addresses

It's only happened maybe 5 times over 3 years and items under $100

I was just wondering if it did happen with a higher priced item would you get a defect, but it seems like if u gave the reason of incorrect address you would not be penalized

Personally, I would do as jarsky541 suggested, but given that Jeff said you'd be ok to ship, I think you'll be fine either way.
