ebay hiding the description

Haven't seen a thread about this and its kind of a big deal for me and I'm sure alot of sellers if they decide to follow threw with it.

If you didn't notice on the 1st of July eBay started running site wide tests again where they would "hide" the description and you had to click to view it in its entirety. They selected a very small amount of seller test dummys in February and most reported negative effects (buyers not reading the description and leaving negatives and or opening cases)

Words from eBay business
"We want to improve and simplify the overall buying experience, and our goal is to have a consistent experience across all devices and screens. This is how buyers are currently viewing item descriptions on mobile devices today."

I spend time on my listing description and create it as if it was a business website in a way. I create my own logos and make it look as PROFESSIONAL as possible. Not to mention when they remove the description from automatically appearing they PICK what few words show in the description. For people selling used/vintage items this is VERY bad. When you sell used/vintage this is VERY bad because the description is VERY important and is 99% of time why cases/returns happen, when its not read.

No idea if they really implement this stupid idea but I know its because of course......AMAZON.

Experiences this about a week ago, but it seems like it's happening to everybody, but now everything is back to normal as it has always been.

Re: ebay hiding the description

I was reading some forums on eBay and they said when you "delete your cookies it resets" which works and eBay confirmed that would be the case.

I just think its such a bad idea to implement this if they do. Its clearly trying to imitate amazon as there is no customization. Its like myspace compared to facebook, when you think of it compared to customization features. But eBayers with stores can make it look really professional and that DOES increase sales.

Its just a bad idea to reduce the listings initial description to a sentence. They talk BIG about us listing accurate descriptions and not be misleading....and then reduce it to a sentence.

Buyers who never reset their cookies are still seeing the "click on description"....
