Google Voice vs Tracfone?

A lot of people believe they get a 0/0 limit because they used a google voice number. If I use Tracfone, i get a few free minutes which I can use to verify right? What about if ebay wants to speak with me in the future?

Vanilla Visa Card or...?

People seem to prefer using a vanilla visa to anything else. Can I get the $25 or do I need a reloadable one?

A lot of members have been having issues with specific models of Tracs not receiving texts, so just search on the forum and see which ones work and which don't. (stupid blue/white sim card tracs - which are the only ones I have!!)

Also for vanilla visa do i get a card with a set amount ex. $25 or a reloadable?

The keyword is "GIFT CARD", you can get a set amount or get the kind that you can preload an exact amount. The minimum is $20 + $4.95 activation. So again, "GIFT CARD".

I get the feeling you trying to tell me something, but its not hitting home. Just need a prepaid card to activate for ebay. If its a gift card that will count. Are you telling me its a gift card because I should plan to buy more or...:shocked:

Use Tracfones to create the accounts then switch them to google voice after creation.

Every account will need its own card.

i didn't understand why he was telling it was a gift card. It's like he's saying I need to understand it's only a giftcard. Why put emphasis on it twice? Just curious (:

Because the other non gift cards dont always or sometimes never work. He was being clear to buy a GIFT CARD not a prepaid visa for example.

There must be hundreds of threads about people buying the wrong card and it not working.

I put emphasis on the term Gift Card because we've told people before to get gift cards and they come back bitching...then we find out they didn't get a Gift Card! Which we were clear as day about it.

A member above you mentioned using the tracphone to confirm your ebay and paypal account and then using it on google voice from then on. That way you avoid paying every month. What do you think about this?

Personally I've never done it, doesn't mean it can't work but at the end of the day it's up to you as the owner of the account to decide.

when you buy a lg440g tracfone does it come with 60 days of service automatically or do you have to buy service? From what people say they always come with a free 20 minutes (is that 20 minutes for 60 days? and then if you don't buy more minutes you lose the number). But I don't want to buy one + 90 days of service if it already has 60 on it. The account im opening i want to keep an active phone on it in case ebay calls.

As far as I know you get 60 days of service along with your 20 free minutes.

Of course, it's crucial to keep an active phone number and one you can answer OR call back if a problem arises.

Now, I know that with Google Voice you can forward a certain amount of GV numbers to a real phone number, i believe it's 3 or 4 but not sure which it is.

What happens if i use the 20 minutes up, still have 30 days left, and then ebay calls? Will I get a notification that someone called so I can go buy minutes?

forward numbers to GV? So im guessing some people use 3 to 4 google voice numbers , and forward them to one number and just keep that tracfone number in service. So now they get 3 to 4 account for the cost of one tracfone and its service? ...Genius lol

Not sure. Just change the resgistration # to GV after you create the account....problem solved.

You can't forward multiple Google Voice #'s to one phone...only one # per phone at a time. But eBay will never know as long as you set up the Voicemail correctly.

So im guessing by default the voicemail says its a google voice and you have to change that?

That's correct. Just record a generic voicemail that says something like: "Hey, this is "Stealth Name", I can't get to the phone right now, please leave your name and number and I'll call you back as soon as I can."

For the record, you CAN use Google Voice to create accounts, but 99% of the time you WILL get 0/0 limits, and you'll have to call in to get them increased.

It's a bit of a hassle, easier to just use a Tracfone, but it's possible if you're on a budget or if you want to get higher than 5/10 items per month (usually I get 25-50.)

Still, easier and faster to use Tracfone.

I'd wait at least a month before changing any registration info period.

There's nothing wrong with Google Voice once the account has been created, for the record.

Go to Walmart and get a $25 visa gift card

It comes with the 3 digit code and you can add any address and zip code to it.

You can also receive codes sent to you when you login online

I like tracfone. I have never liked GV. To me it is a pain in the ass. Once you run out of minutes or days, you can buy a refill card for 30 minutes/90 days for like $20. Hopefully your stealth account can handle that expense when the time comes to renew it. But thats just my opinion.

Again, if used to CREATE the account, it will result in 0/0 limits.

This has resulted in MANY members complaining about it, and the vets here are tired of hearing about Google Voice because of it.

Thus, the general advice is to suck it up and buy Tracfones. Personally, for some of my "backup" accounts, this would be a wasted expense. If you know how to do it correctly, you won't have problems. Just follow the above mentioned advice.
