Alert: Someone may have used your account without your permission. Help?

Alert

Someone may have used your account without your permission. As a precaution, we've temporarily locked your account so no one else can use it.

Contact us to restore your account.

I'm able to log into my account, but can't sell. I get that when trying to sell. Anybody fixed this by calling ebay or they ask for id and docs?

I called ebay and they wanted to verify my old phone number I had on file, but I don't have it anymore. I had updated a new number recently a month ago and that still didn't work. They want the old number and they did the database thing and they could not find me. My address is real and that still didn't work. This sucks.

Yeah it is my account, before it got the message I had updated the number before, but they want the very old number on it. Please don't tell me I have to keep my numbers. I have like 500 accounts, I can't keep all the numbers. Sorry just a lil stressed, this sucks.

you should really keep ALL info ever used. I have also learned this the hard way

If this is your real account, you will probably get it back. The same thing happened to me once. They wanted copies of my ID, a utility bill for proof of address and screen shots showing a completed anti-virus scan showing that my PC was clean.

They never asked me for any other phone number than my current one. They DID ask me what my previous address was, luckily I was able to remember it off the top of my head.

Lol, it sounds like you think it might not be my account and I hacked it. Of course it's my account. Anyways, thanks.

if you are using dedicated ip to access it or vpn? sometimes it happens when the server id down, it could result into access of the account with your local ip. At this time they may send you notification like this.

Hi, this is in response to the private message you sent me. I am new to the forum so it won't let me reply via private message so il post it here! I've been selling android tablets, childrens tablets etc just a range of different electronic items. Well I only started selling again on eBay about 2 weeks ago and its happened to me 3 times now. The first time I had no idea what was going on and I got about 3 emails from eBay saying they believed a third party was using my account without my authorisation and then the next email said all my items I was selling had been removed. I then tried to sign on and couldn't as they locked my account so I phoned them up and had to change my passwords and everything then I got back on. Then upon signing in I realised as well as completely deleting all the items I had been selling (so I couldn't just relist them) they had also deleted all my orders so I couldn't even find any of my buyers info or what they ordered. Then I relisted everything and a few days later it happened again and I was locked out my account but this time I had an option to change the password so I did that and got back on and luckily nothing had been deleted this time. Then everything was fine for about 4-5 days and then one night it happened again and this time it completely deleted everything again, all my items, all my orders etc. And they emailed everyone who had bought from me telling them not to trust my account and that it was being used by a hacker and not to answer any of my emails as its not really me which ended up making most of the buyers open up cases against me. Some of them were understanding but told me they had received about 7 messages from eBay about me! I completely blame eBay for this entire thing as nobody has been using my account and I know that for a fact and if I get kicked off for having lots of cases opened up against me then I will not be happy as its really not my fault. So that night I phoned up once again and asked what was going on, the woman I spoke to didn't really seem to have a clue then after about an hour trying to figure it out she said something along the lines of that it was a problem with the 'device' i use - meaning my laptop. I asked what she means by this and she said that it had a block on it or something and that eBay had registered it as blocked or something like that. To be honest she didnt really make much sense and her first language wasn't english. She told me she had removed the block and that it definitely shouldnt happen again. Then the next morning my account was 'temporarily restricted' like I said in my first post until I send them extra information about me and my business so I'm just waiting to hear back about that. I just hope its resolved soon. Whats been happening with your account?

I'm using static ip from my local isp which shouldn't be a problem. I don't use vpn for those types of accounts.

I got the unauthorized user and I need to change passwords and I did, but then it would not let me sell and I have to call in. I call in and they ask me to verify with first registered number on ebay which I don't have anymore because I changed numbers long time ago or database questions. Of course I could not be found on the database questions so they kick me off ebay. It's just time to move on. Sucks. I got this due to a buyer reporting me multiple times because he has no life so if it's not somebody reporting you then it's ebay. In your case I think it's because you just registered on ebay and started selling electronics which ebay doesn't like, but in my case because my account is like 2 years old most likely was because of this buyer who messing my account up. Anyways, goodluck.

No I have been selling on eBay for 6 years on and off but I wasn't selling a lot of items until recently. In my case I restarted my internet system to be given a new IP address so I could make another '⊗⊗⊗⊗' account so maybe its because of that? I really have no idea but then what happens if you take your computer to another building with a different IP address do they just automatically assume its someone else using your account. Hopefully it wont happen again.

To burst your bubble this sounds as though it wasn't eBay's fault nor yours entirely even you were the one that clicked a link or went to a website or page etc you weren't suppose to be on..

You were a victim of a phishing attempt.. Someone probably implanted a key logger in your computer and you should be VERY careful and try to use a different one or a call a computer expert and let them know this...

Because if you kept changing your password and they still kept going in , it means someone was watching you type and click everything from your computer even when you changed your password..

thus allowing them to obviously know your NEW password...

so just some advice here on my end.. almost 100% this is due to keylogging:boink:

Are you blocking cookies? This seems to me the problem. If you block or delete cookies then eb will not recognize you and think you are the hacker

You can be a victim of phishing even with anti-virus people!! All they need is to redirect you to a website that looks like ebay when you click the link. Once they also have your security question answers they can keep resetting the password themselves to gain access. No keylogging required.
