Oops.

What I was talking about is something completely different. Faulty returns is when they ship the item back and it's not in its original condition or if you lost value from the item getting returned then IF your opted into their hassle free program then you can if you ask them over the phone to cover both your cost and the buyers.

I suppose this is just the computer autogrnerating it somehow but you can always call too.

I do this. With every parcel I include a sticky label with my real address on it. When they want to return an item I then tell them to use that label.

Ahh, I never have and never will use the "Hassle Free Returns" feature.

ANYTHING that takes power away from the seller is generally a bad thing, with the exception of FBA. They will ALWAYS refund the seller if the buyer returns broken/defective/opened items.

Unless there's a positive aspect of the eBay program I'm missing?

GOA,

if you don't use hassle-free returns, all the crooked buyers (but I repeat myself) just file not as described claims and eBay automatically sides with them. How do you get around this?

At least with crooked buyers, I get to represent myself.

I look at it as going to court with a botched jury, OR just pleading guilty. Even with a faulty court, I'd rather have the opportunity to plead my innocence.

I digress. My products aren't high end, i.e. I don't sell iPads or videogame consoles, so the occasional loss isn't devastating to me. With that disclaimer in mind, MOST of my buyers are pretty honest. For the occasional scammer, usually they will try to say they didn't receive an item on, for example, a digitally delivered code, and then I'll mail them a piece of paper that says: "Nice try, but you lose" or something similar via USPS First Class with signature confirmation. In the even of item not as described, I usually do as solefoodbk states above, and work with them. If they don't accept my reasonable requests, let them file, eBay will refund them out of their own pocket 70% of the time in those cases.

I like buyers who just opens case if there is any problems instead of sending you a text, in such scenario breaking seller performance...oh, wait...it's eBay who tells them to contact sellers in such way >.<

It's better than sending your real address by message which could be read by eBay. I used to do this and it made me very nervous.
