I just tried to activate a new tracfone and they asked me...to add pin number for airtime...this is going to be more costly than before....honestly i hope we find a different service that is cheap and efficient.

Amazing how cheap people are with regards to a necessary cost of an eBay account. If you really are plowing through 10 accounts and 10 tracfones a month and the $$$ are adding up, you are doing something wrong with your business plans!

Tracfone finally figured out that most people are buying their phones for the free minutes and not adding minutes after it expires.

Contact them directly come up with a reason and they may activate your remaining phones....for the future tho it looks like were going to be moving to sim cards with minutes and one phone we can continually swap sim cards with....in theory it should work but the simplicity and cost will be changed unfortunately!

You know me, I am never cheap with stealth. But still, a cost increase like that sucks. 300% with no warning is never a good thing! And, yes, we have only ourselves to blame, because we SHOULD HAVE had alternatives ready to go. But, in our defense, it worked great for MANY YEARS.

Its been a week since I opened up a phone, and then it worked fine.

However, not good, I have a $60 in unactivated tracfones I bought last week.

Will be working on alternatives

I've always used VZW prepaid phone...I've said it multiple times on here. Have never had an issue. $5 minimum to load and that lasts 2 months. On top of that, they now give $10 free airtime when you activate the phone. Sure, it's not a $5 phone like the Tracfone is...it's $12. If you are too cheap to afford $20 total for a good initial verification for your accounts, you may need to rethink things. This goes for Tracfones as well.

I doubt tracfone stopped free minutes because of people like us, more likely to make it more expensive for crooks to acquire burner phones. The Verizon prepaid phones sound like they are on the same plan as the hacked mifi's on eBay; will look into them for future accounts.

hmm might be wrong here but even if just like lets says 15 percent of people only ever reloaded those 5dollar phones after purchase then im sure trac still made out good...:pout:

Not at all. It costs tracfone more than $5 for those phones and they are relying on people buying service to make money. Same as with contract phones.

LOL Tracfones biggest userbase is made of people using them for nefarious purposes. Tracfone is a corporation and could care less about the "war on drugs". We abused the system. Sure, we weren't the ONLY ones, but last I checked, eBay was banning people regularly....this forum is a LARGE portion of Tracfones "churn and burn" problem, I'd stake 10 grand on it.

I took a bunch back today Home depot and Best Buy no problem to return them at those places with a receipt

tracphone has a 9.99 plan with minutes and you can change the number, someone said 4 times within a year and you get to keep the minutes that you added from the 9.99 plan.

Check their website for the 9.99 plan for 50 or 60 minutes for 30 days of service.

That is 2.50 per number changed and the cost of the cellphone when you bought it.

*This story is still better than 50 shades of grey

eBay and Amazon stealth are a very tiny percentage of TracFone's business. We think of it is a big thing because we are all heavily involved with it. But the fact is, we are a drop in the bucket. Tracfone has been complaining for years about not having people sign up for their monthly plans. A lot of people use them for all kinds of things. Sure, some drug dealers use it. But so do people having affairs, or who want burner phones for many, many reasons, only a tiny percentage of them have anything to do with stealth.

It's a lot if your not one of those high end drug dealors. This ducks tho I bought two phones thinking I was going to get free mins so I could list more and pay for a better serivce.

It's actually a refill card for $19.99 for 60min/90days

On the phone covers they break it down how much per month, so the divide them$19.99 over 3 months

So it's around $6.65 a month, and a lot of the tracfones have triple minutes for life. So it's not bad you get 60min a month for $6.65

They DO have a $9.95 refill on their website only, they do not sell it in stores. It is only valid for 30 days, however.

In the bigger picture... as long as they still work is really what we should be concerned with. An extra few $'s is the lesser of evils.

I'm interested in hearing about the $12 Verizon phone that wtfebay mentioned earlier though.

Ahh, tracfone is still fine for me. But what is that VZW prepaid that wtfebay is referring to? Just curious about that.
