Ebay and Credit Card Verification
 

Has anyone ran into eBay asking for credit card verification on a new account?
I was not logged into a new account five minutes when they asked for my credit card information to verify my identity.

It was my understanding that a credit card was only needed for seller accounts? Were you trying to sell something or had you tried on that account?

Maybe something has changed since Ebay has gone to paperless transactions?

If eBay asks you for a credit card during the original sign up for a basic buying account then some part of the information has been used by someone somewhere before.

It could be the Full Name was used on another account.
It could be the Address was used on another account.
It could be the IP Address was used on another account.
It could be any combination of the above information.

I have seen this happen before myself many times. It does not surprise me any more.

i havent run into that but why not just get a simon gift card and verify? you need one anyway to pay ebay fees. seems like its not a big deal unless I missed something.

It was a basic buyer account.

I do have a gift card, so it was no big deal.

I am thinking HWGA is correct and something tinged eBay's multi-million dollar IT system....
