VMware info

Can I keep all my VMware stuff on a flash drive for security purposes or does it have to load onto my main drive ?

Like if someone got onto my lap top that i use to operate vmware on, but if I had the flash drive with me, would they be able to see anything I do on VMware on the laptop? Like can I keep it completely isolated on a flash drive?

Re: VMware info

Yes, you can put your VM's anywhere. By default VMWare creates a folder in "My Documents" called "Virtual Machines", which is where your VM's are stored. In VMWare settings you can easily change this directory to whatever you like.

You would need to leave the actual VMWare software installed on your main hard drive, but migrating your VM's to a flash drive wouldn't be a problem.

Personally, I have all of my VM's stored on my internal hard drive and backed up on an external hard drive. I don't worry about people accessing them because each VM's OS is password protected.

Phaz0r is correct. The files for an individual VM is portable, but you need to install the corresponding VM software (VMware workstation, Virtualbox, etc) on every machine you're intending to use it on.
