Ordered a package from hkk Now dhl invoice
 

I order a package from hkk got the package then 3 weeks later I get a invoice from dhl 23.oo import export duties 12 and payment deferment 11.oo total
23.oo

WHAT IS THIS ?>>? I don't really order much through customs but I know I paid for the shipping already .. So y am I being charged again? thanks for the insite .. :doh:

exactly what is says.

Duty(taxes) and fees(more taxes)

Customs assessed duties paid already.

Their considered opinion is there was an under-payment.

They want the due values paid.

The goods may not be released if you do not pay.

Make sure to never be swayed by your friend the seller to under declare duties just for the sake of a sale.

I already have the package .. But why did this happen ?when It hasn't ever happened in the past ?? was their a inspection and they charged me for it ?> And how do I make sure this don't happen next time ? I don't want my package stuck over a few bucks and they wait for me to send a check .. I am not worried about them inspecting it I just think this is stupid .. So next order I need to tell my seller to put more of a amount on it ?

I have never not once had it not happen. I am always paying DHL, UPS, Fedex duty fees for inventory.

Are you talking about a one item purchase?
That would be all together different and you wont get it every time. Much like us mailing something to Canada or UK. Duty SHOULD be collected but on small packages it is often over sited.

yea I might have ordered maybe 3 packages in last 6 months . before that maybe one per year ... 16 lbs average .. and they hold your packages mail you out a letter then you mail back a check and then a month later they release your shipment ? and this ALWAYS happens to you ? Surly not

Not a usual thing to happen, PTL.

More than likely some dude was having a bad hair day & decided to chase up a few extra bucks of revenue to make book for the team.

anything under 200$ you don't pay any duty in the US. Most chinese undervalue as standard which is probably why you haven't had to pay before. DHL and fedex always bill me for it after I've received the item, UPS always want it on my doorstep.
Over here if customs check it and think its undervalued then they ask for proof of value, rarely happens though

Nope.

I get my items, then a bill comes in the mail a week or two later.

What MAY have happened to you is you failed to pay duty in the past via bill so they are collecting it first.

a couple years ago UPS made me pay it CASH on delivery because I did not pay previous duty bills.

The USA threshold for taxes is $400. I've received about 100 packages from abroad over the last year and I've received one bill from DHL. That was for a $2800 order which my supplier declared a value of $480

Most suppliers know your country's tax threshold and exploit the system..

the real and true value was 240.oo and that was stated on the invoice as well .. my seller is very straight no cut corners on lower pricing .. did they open it and think its worth more ?

That's odd. I've definitely never received a bill for anything that low. Maybe your supplier left a portion of his/her export duties unpaid? That would explain the "deferred" payment you mentioned..

EDIT: Nevermind. That is probably just some kind of late fee applied by the shipping company. The mystery remains unsolved.

Yea I double checked and the invoice they sent me to pay is the same invoice taped to side of box ..

shouldn't been from my last order it was even a lesser amount .. is it 200 or 400 u start paying taxes on ? this was 240. but that would almost be 10% tax for 23.00 on a 240 order . seems really high

I know this bill is from dhl .. so customs didn't charge this, dhl did ? or dhl pay customs then bill me ? as I have already received item ?

When i order a package from someone and it gets sent by DHL, they always text me beforehand saying how Much VAT is payable which is 20% + Fee. I then pay it online via my card and thats it..

Yea I was going to call them tomorrow . I was just wondering if this is normal.. I see people all the time on here talking about 1800 packages and seldom do you hear anything on taxes or fees .. so for a 200 order . I was just wondering y pick on me :fight::boink:

HEHE Do I need one of them un trac able trac phones to call dhl :spy: I know its only few bucks but I need to know what I am doing .. I mean I would hate to order a 500 order and they tell me I owe 200 more or something crazy

It's definitely not normal for such a small order. I know for a fact $400 is the threshold. Just call them from your normal cell phone and see what's up. You don't have to be stealthy when talking to DHL :noidea:

Its from customs, dhl pay it then bill you. The deferment charge is dhl charging you for the hassle, the other part is the actual tax so 12$ is only 5%, depends what the item is. Google 'duty calculator'

Tax % CAN be calculated on so many aspects. Industry and material are two big aspects. In my world I have the Pitman/robinson tax of 12% of material cost for example.

I called and dhl had the dumbest person answering the phones . she just said import tax and because dhl pay custom dhl send me bill . how would u like to pay.. I asked her about why I was taxed and never before have I been and orders was more than 500 before she didn't know anything .... I guess sounds pretty normal thing to be hit and miss on these invoices ..

pay the bill and then tell the seller, he might give you some money of you next order. Also tell him your a big buyer, that always works.

yes sounds right, pay it theres no other option really and then annoy the sender to give discount or a partial refund

i had one to pay for dhl one time too and i paid it and then got some free items the next time i ordered

They did you a favor by not holding it, and it's a small amount of money, just pay them, not worth arguing. Next time they may hold your package until you actually pay.

You know darn well your supplier under-declared your value, that's just one reason why you're buying it cheap overseas.

I'm seeing this a lot more lately, UPS is way worse than DHL, I thinking somebody is cracking down somewhere and we're all getting beat with the ugly stick.
