What am i missing here?
 

My account is 20 transactions from powerseller and about 4 years old with over 100 feedback with no negs.

My competitors account is couple months old with 20 feedback. He literally copied my listing almost word for word and in the best match category he comes before me. Not to mention my item is about 3-4 dollars cheaper than his and his DSR stars aren't even filled in yet to 10...

Anyone have any clue how this works?

One theory is new accounts get a 'boost' in the search.

So you think 'wow, isn't ebay great, I'm making good sales' and you continue selling.

If you listed stuff and it didn't sell as it was drowned out by older established accounts, then you would quickly give up with ebay.

I thought that exact same thing but then i read the ebay guide line to having the first best match listing and it contradicts this theory.

Another thing i noticed was that on my new accounts my listings go up really fast. Literally within minutes. My aged accounts take hours for them to show up.

I think that second issue is to do with indexing.

No idea why it would take longer on older accounts though.

New sellers do seem to get a boost for a bit and after a while new listings start to get buried.
