Manufacturer Refurbished cable modem use

Hi was wondering it it would be safe to get a used or manu refurb modem. I know that the ones u get from cable companies are constantly reused. Also on my router if i get a new modem will i also need to change the mac address or will that happen automaticlly?

You dont need to worry about the MAC address

IP is all that matters and reused modems are fine for that
