Item returned by Post Office to stealth address??

So I recently dropped off a large package for media mail on the 7th. Today, the 9th, the tracking shows that the item was delivered and left with an individual at the same zip code as the stealth address address I used. I did however place my return address over the actual stealth address which is in the same zip code (bad idea?)

Regardless does anyone have any experience with this, i.e. why would they return it to the stealth address perhaps when my address is on the return label.

Thank you

So I guess they know the stealth address under the label I affixed over it by the tracking code and sent it back to the stealth address. I wish they would've just sent it back to me instead of the stealth address!

I usually just email the correct return address to them, ive had that happen before, not all buyers look at the the address on the package.

Actually, the buyer wasn't the one who sent it back. I just posted the item two days ago and the USPS for some reason Returned it to Sender but it was sent to the stealth address instead of the address which I attached over the return address. I guess I will just re-ship another of the item using Fed-Ex printed off of their website

So the mail man peeled off the return label you put on and sent it back to the stealth address underneath? That sounds crazy, never had that happen, i dont know what to tell you..

usps does some of the most random annoying things sometimes. sounds like they peeled off the address and seen the original return address...

That's so weird tho because I had taped over the label very well with packaging tape so if they did they would have had to have done a lot of work to uncover the address.

I would look for updates on tracking and check your mail box or any other place they may leave packages.

Maybe that was the reason, they probably thought it looked tampered with, i usually just leave the original stealth address on and email the real one if they need to return. Ive done what you did before also but it was a white sticker i cut to size so it blended in nicely with the label.

He is saying USPS has a return to sender. So only a couple options. It is media mail and USPS has the right to open and inspect Media mail. IF they found he was miss using media mail(shipping non media) maybe they did send it back along with the warning and postal investigation notice) OR maybe the tracking is being glitchy and will be updated. Such as miss sent might show being delivered and the updated as it gets processed.

The likelihood on having a label torn off without being a media mail inspection is very unlikely seeing as it is hugely illegal.

It was media mail. It was a lot of 100 DVD's. Hopefully the tracking is being glitchy, it just shows that the item has been fully delivered and left with a person as opposed to any type of transit. Just a very weird scenario

Maybe it was inspected and unfortunately the tapped on label was not put back on.

It is so hard to say what could have happened.

Glad to hear it was actually media. Miss using media mail can screw up future orders at the post office.

I had this happen on a item I sold on Amazon. Stealth address was non deliverable even tho I blacked out and put new return label on. Got sent to lost mail in Atlanta. Maybe when it prints out it maintains the information that was printed out on the label electronically. Probably to protect those users photoshopping labels to show it delivered.

Re: Item returned by Post Office to stealth address??

The account address is probably embedded in the scan code, which is why it was returned to the stealth address instead of the taped over return label.

I've had problems where the customer changes the delivery address after I printed the label, and I changed it and just wrote it in instead of reprinting the label, and it went to the originally printed address anyway then was rerouted to the changed address.

As a note I've also had it mail the packages to the return address instead of the recipient address when the return address was printed in larger type than the addressee details. :(

Re: Item returned by Post Office to stealth address??

I recently had a purchase i made track as 'left with individual' at the origin zip code. It may not be exactly the same as your situation, but it turned out to just be a tracking glitch (I read people saying that it was probably a postal employee scanning the packing with their scanner set to 'delivery' instead of 'acceptance')

Anyway, if it turns out it is not just a glitch, then it seems to be just another good reason to set up forwarding from your stealth addresses to your real addresses. All you have to do is fill out the form at your PO once a year and everything will be routed to your true address.

I would consider all info to be kept

Is it possible the return address information is stored in the label printed off of eBay??

It is.

Read here:

Those of you "taping addresses" on your packages are wasting your time, because everything is electronically sorted anyway...

I know for fact this is true, I had a package that was undeliverable, it was returned to the address on the stealth account, they completely ignored the return label or couldn't read it, (I used white out then a label). They returned it using the info on the barcode.

I would Contact the post office ask them what happened to your package . Never hurt..

It won't help. USPS will tell you the package was delivered, and they'll tell you the zip code where it was delivered.

I frequently have to call them trying to track down shipments. Rarely are they any help.
