Moving Vmware
 

I have unlimited G drive space and I thought I can just leave my vm folder there so I can constantly work between my laptop and desktop but I can't.

How do you guys make the vmware in sync between computers?

wow, i have never tried putting my vmware files on google drive.... what problems did you encounter?

I forgot my laptop was turned off so there is no vm file on my laptop lol. Just a folder and got me confused.


But how do you guys work between computer and laptop? External hard drive?

I use a External Hard Drive. I automatically save all my VM's to my Portable HDD.

I might get a Portable HDD, this syncing is taking wayyyyy toooooo long!

The initial syncing will take long but after that, minor changes syncing will be a lot faster.

I was thinking of that too. but it been over 1 hour and i only sync 19/6253 lol............

If it not done by today, ima transfer the whole file and drop it on my laptop G drive to see if that works.

Don't do it, as it is async, and as VMware does a lot of small disk operations, it will be VERY slow and laggy. The best way to do it is to rent some dedicated server, put VMware inside, and spawn machines via their nice tool, and then access them via RDP.

Or NAS. NAS would be the most convenient and would play the role of a rented server and an external hard drive all in one on your home network.

I use one of them to store my movie collection on and they are really cool. A NAS device is essentially an external hard drive with an ethernet connection. Rather than connecting it to each computer you want to use it on, you connect it to your router and access from anywhere on your network. As long as you have a gigabit router the data transfer speeds are comparable to USB 3.0.

NAS would be much more viable than remote storage. The performance of your Google drive is bottle necked by the speed of your internet connection, while NAS would not be.

G drive corrupted one of my os. Deleted all my users. Good thing it didn't corrupt my ebays and PayPals. Getting a external hdd

Ive tried vmware on a dedicated server before and it just won't load. Not sure why

Sounds interesting. But what if you are traveling and not home? How would it sync
