What do you do when travelling abroad?
 

I have 7 accounts using 24VC but as I'm travelling only 4 times a year now (at 7 nights each). I dont know whether islets worth knocking them on the head and just whittling down the accounts before I leave the UK (to prevent using any foreign IP addresses).

What do others do?

If your using 24vc then you don't need to worry about IP addresses. What what the VPN is for

As I travel less now, I'm thinking of knocking them on the head and not doing work when abroad.

At the moment I use my sky router which provides a different IP each time on the other accounts...

On 7 only the mains, I use 24VC but it's quite costly and only take advantage when abroad so 48 of the 52 weeks are kind of wasted for me.

Haha! Sounds like the best plan but sometimes it's hard to let go ;)

If you had a Mifi/Dongle I could show you how to make it work.

Can these work for stealth when travelling abroad for short amounts of time?

I'm happy with resetting the router at the moment.

You can use a combination of Teamviewer + Mifi/Dongle + Home Network.

Logmein also works nicely as a teamviewer substitute.

I think I'm going to buy into a mifi device. How much data will be a good amount to start with? I only surf the net for stealth about 2 hours per day.

I would go with Three and get a 10gb one

I think O2 is better in my area. Don't know much about MiFi though so will have to check signal strengths.

Last question, is it better value to use PAYG or contract?

Contract most the time

Depends on useage. Only you will know your useage though

Managing accounts from around the world is possible as long as you have good internet connection.

I'm always worried about PayPal/eBay noting I'm using a foreign IP address though...

When overseas you do need a UK VPN

In the UK you can use a MiFi or VPN
Overseas you must use a VPN

I have an easy solution, how about enjoy being abroad and take a break from stealth. Or just schedule your listings to end when you arrive back home.

Enjoy your surroundings and the atmosphere abroad, its not everyday one gets to travel to different places. Life is short, enjoy it!

If you have someone shipping your items while away etc...then your main concern is answering questions? If so, reply directly with email and don't log into accounts while traveling.

How crucial is it that when you are on holiday you want to access your accounts and work? I have always shut down in the past and taken the time out...

I wouldn't want to risk any hiccups with good accounts just so I could access them abroad.

Lets be honest for the time you'll go away it probably is more hassle then its worth.

If you do it use VPNs probably 24vc - there are some other solid companies out there but using the first lot of pages on Google isn't going to be helpful to the accounts.

I'd just set the dispatch time long and second class. refund any disputes when you get back.

Could use a cheaper vpn but still a waste of money if you're not selling a lot

Cheaper VPN could lead to the account being limited so not really worth it

eBay messages can easily be replied to directly via email if using Gmail which is always really handy :)

Yeah, I have someone who can dispatch for me but what about marking all items as dispatched?

Well for example, on my Verizon Mifi you can log into the Mifi and disconnect and reconnect all from the same portal.

You would try to never do that, ie use a foreign IP.

We had a US user who went to the trouble of contacting ebay/paypal to advise he was going to be travelling in China.
He even got acknowledgement from them that everything was fine.

First sign on, he got limited and had massive issues getting the account restored by paypal.


I had issues last year with TeamViewer. An error was made during the remote set up.....facepalm!

I would go for enjoying the break. In fact at Christmas, we close the shops and put them on vacation.

It is about control, and keeping the upper hand.

you know, i wish i could travel all the time. especially abroad. ill be going on my first vacation this summer since i think 2006.

Short of emailing every customer, the VPN option seems the best to me

Are there any VPN's that would show ebay a fresh ip every time? 24vc looks solid but expensive..

They are only about £10 a month so it's not all that expensive.

The service they they provide is absolutely top notch though
