Odd talk about linking accounts with eBay rep... 'use friends/family, other name'
 

I called yet again to try to resolve 'cases closed without seller resolution', and return my selling status to normal. I could not. I asked the rep if I was able to use my other account.

At first she said, sure, no problem, you are not suspended. Use it all you want. After a brief pause, she came back to say they *may* be linked if the names etc are the same. In which case it will only limit my account in the same way, at no risk of suspension.

She then suggested I sign up for another account in a different name (?!), a family or friend, etc. I again told her I've heard stories of suspensions left and right based on linked accounts... you're sure I can open an account in another name and be fine? She said yes, that there should be no way of limiting the associated account if it's in another name. Again, only in cases of suspended accounts.. which are taken more seriously.

I thanked her for being the first person to try to legitimately *help* me get back on eBay, but I've heard a lot of conflicting info here about nightmares. Is she right... if I'm careful to avoid linking I may be able to use my old account? And that they wouldn't do anything to a friends account in the case of selling restrictions, only in cases of suspension?


Which brings me to my next question... How likely are these accounts to be linked?
Different names (nickname, full legal name)
Different addresses
Different ssn I believe

SLIGHTLY linking emails (the registered email for ebay is the same as the registered paypal for the other)
Used same computer under 5 times, but back when accounts were both top rated.

Also... she seemed to imply that the name and address were the most important part. She stressed 'Is the other account in the same name?' as if... if it were in another name and I were careful I'd be fine.


I also believe at this time the accounts are not linked, because she said 'are you sure its in the same name? (I told her it was)

Dont believe a word these reps tell you. In most cases theyre useless and are completely unaware of the way ebay actually does things - which is automatically governed by their bots. If the accounts you open do get linked and suspended they wont lift a finger to assist you and the default response will be' nothing we can do about it'. The Bots make the decisions - not the human reps.
If youre going to do anything go full stealth and maintain complete and total separation between the accounts as outlined in the stealth guide and explained in so many threads on these forums.. Dont take any chances and dont waste your time.

She claims they wont get suspended at all, only limited like its parent account.

That... limited results in other limited accounts. suspended accounts will result in more suspended accounts.

But the official policy does state bypassing ebay restrictions could result in suspension.

It all seems to be a word game.. limited/restricted/suspended/indefinately suspended..

Unless you got all that in writing, you can take it with a grain of salt. And even then, there is a chance the written word will be disregarded too.

I do not say this lightly. There are a large number of users here, (and outside of this forum) who trusted ebay staff and got well and truly shafted.

Like I said - dont trust a word that comes out of the reps - they (like John Snow) know nothing.

Yeah... after 10 phone calls I agree. I guess she was just the first that said what I wanted to hear. In any case, I logged into my old account from a new device... listed a couple non related items for sale.. no link yet. I changed the one linking email to a new email address. Going to take it easy and hope for the best. No link after 12 hours. Getting comfortable with the idea of stealth, because I know I'll need it at some point anyway.

I think that rep just skimmed through the stealth guide. Sure a friend or family is going in the right direction, but she missed the part with the same address :p
