FedEx intentionally delaying packages..

This is the first time I've seen this, but apparently it's been going on for YEARS. Just an FYI, incase you're like me and have never heard of such a thing.. or never noticed..

I purchased an item and sorted by distance, and paid a few bucks more than other listings to buy locally as I wanted it to get here relatively quickly. The package has been at the local FedEx for 4 days now... and each day they scan it 'Package not due for delivery' and delay it on to the next day.

Apparently FedEx will intentionally delay ground packages to add more value to their 2 day service. I was shocked to see this, but when I googled it this has been going on since 2003.

I ship FedEx about 1/4 of the time or less, but after this I will not be using their services anymore. They have lost or damaged almost every package I've sent with them this year, but this is the last straw. I can't have buyers having a negative experience due to the carrier I choose.

Just a public service announcement incase you didn't notice this, either.... Unless a customer complains I don't really watch their shipping updates... so I'm sure I've had lots of unhappy customers waiting several unnecessary days for their package!

Been like that same with smart post. But worth it for the rates package cost $18 with usps but only $10 with smart post yet usps delivers it. Also you can check smart post tracking on either fed ex or usps.

Never knew about that.
Thank you for the post and for putting it out there.

Yeah SmartPost is great.... at least you know youre trading off delivery days for value. This is a little different, it was a new seller who paid full retail for ground or home delivery at FedEx office store... he probably paid $9 for this under 1lb package.

Do you live in a relatively rural area?

Also, was it Home delivery?

No I live 10 minutes from the Fedex facility in the suburbs. The package made it here too quickly, so they felt the need to delay it a few days. I was in a hurry to open it and threw away the packaging, but it was shipped in the FedEx pak

Was it home delivery? If you are at a residential address, you will get fedex deliveries Wednesday-Saturday only and 12noon to 9pm in most areas.

Re: FedEx intentionally delaying packages..

It must've been ground, I threw out the envelope. It was delayed Wednesday in addition to Monday and Tuesday, so I don't think that was it... but that is good to know.

Re: FedEx intentionally delaying packages..

almost all residential addressed will have a HD label for Home delivery and service is great but it will sit at the terminal for up to three days depending on exact schedule. Some areas HD will get delivered by ground truck IF it is in route already and the truck is not full.

Re: FedEx intentionally delaying packages..

Fedex as well as UPS does the same thing. If its 'ground' then the station usually puts it in the back of the facility until the due date of delivery.

I have a long term carrier who knows me and pushes my packages into the next 'rotation' load out so I get it faster. like...3-4 days faster.

But its a known fact that most packages get across the states (from sea to sea) in less than 2 days. Its the money you pay to determine how fast you get it.

DHL does it to me. I can ship from Hong Kong to Boston in 8-12 hours but they wont drive it out to me the 38 miles until 72 hours goes by.

Usps is really showing their value lately... I don't think anyone else can touch them price and delivery-wise.
