| | | scotch | 05-20-2016 01:37 PM | huge eBay Sales Drop??? I noticed for the past month or so, eBay sales dropped significantly. I don't sell seasonal products, it's really strange seeing a drop from 10k a month to 3-4k a month. Record breaking low sales :)
Anyone aware of recent algorithm changes?

| slokor | 05-20-2016 01:46 PM | Re: huge eBay Sales Drop??? Havnt noticed any drop in my sales.
Might have to do with the specific items youre selling perhaps? |
| phaz0rz | 05-20-2016 04:09 PM | Re: huge eBay Sales Drop??? My guess would be your competition is wiping you out. Traffic/sales have been steady for me all year. |
| yankee | 05-20-2016 04:14 PM | Re: huge eBay Sales Drop??? What priced items?
I have noticed competition has lowered prices to the point everyone loses money on many things these days.
In one niche of higher dollar items $300-1500.00 items, unless you are willing to loose $15-100 per item, you will not sell anything. 2 million dollars of stale inventory waits for better and brighter days.
Cheaper stuff flys out the door still! |
| stressed08 | 05-20-2016 04:46 PM | Re: huge eBay Sales Drop??? I had a huge drop, but my account became limited so I dropped in search rankings so that was to be expected.
I noticed the opposite true from Dec 25 until March though, huge seasonal increase for some reason even though my products aren't seasonal, then buying calmed down in April before my account even became limited |
| e2free | 05-20-2016 05:36 PM | Re: huge eBay Sales Drop??? As far as i know in uk most of business on ebay are down around 40% it's been dropping from past 3 to 4 months don't know what going to happen |
| yankee | 05-20-2016 05:38 PM | Re: huge eBay Sales Drop??? Some say that Europe is expecting the biggest recession since the last great recession within the next 6 months with USA to follow a few months after. Same as 2008....
Kinda makes sense. |

-scotch | Hey there,
I have had sales drops as well, but I contribute it to the spring starting again. Soon summer will be here, and sales will drop gradually until september, than it will pick up again. Summertime is always slower.
I did not hear or read anything about changed parameters or other new god-knows-now-what new Ebay rules.
God Bless:surrender: |
Re: huge eBay Sales Drop??? Seems like everyone's sales are dropping. On a brighter note, my sales have gone up by about 15% over the last few weeks. :p |
| scotch | 05-20-2016 10:59 PM | Re: huge eBay Sales Drop??? Yeah, here and there competition may sell lower on some items. I feel something is wrong on the economic scale... I start questioning the power of purchase.
First time in god how many years I have noticed a drastic drop in sales. Not instant but rather gradual (in short period of time).
- I do agree with the fact it really depends what type of products you sell. Some can still make a dollar even in recession. |
| Senyo | 05-21-2016 06:10 AM | Re: huge eBay Sales Drop??? Yep my sales have also dropped over the last two months....
Could it have something to do with the new product review system? |
Re: huge eBay Sales Drop??? Competition is one thing. Are there other newer items that have hit the market that are not in your supply? Perhaps your items are just not as popular as before? Just ideas... |
| aking | 05-21-2016 10:04 AM | Re: huge eBay Sales Drop??? I logged on here to find this thread and comment, and what do you know, here it is. Yup, my sales have dropped in the last few weeks as well. Hopefully it picks back up soon. |
| yotano211 | 05-21-2016 02:14 PM | Re: huge eBay Sales Drop??? My have dropped starting in the spring but sales have slowly increased, but summer is the best time when more kids are at school playing games and need more hard drive space. Then Christmas comes and I am off to the races.
I love summer. |
| stressed08 | 05-21-2016 02:42 PM | Re: huge eBay Sales Drop??? I noticed another thing causing sales to drop is they now insert all of the international sellers along side / above US sellers. Which is REDICULOUS. Several items have sold from other countries, and buyers paid $30 extra to ship, because all these international sellers are above me in search rankings. I had the same item, here in the US, for far less.
Alternatively, the converse is true... the only sales I've gotten all month have been international... so I'm screwing someone in their respective countries by being ahead of the own countries sellers |
Re: huge eBay Sales Drop??? I think eBay is just fidgeting/experimenting with the search rankings, hence why people's sales are being affected. Really dont think its anything to do with season/potential recession. |
| scotch | 05-21-2016 03:04 PM | Re: huge eBay Sales Drop??? Appreciate all the comments and possible cause-effect issues.
Overall to whoever is reading this thread:
1. Summer time is coming, people may focus on summer type of products. (Very likely)
2. Competition is definitely one possible reason, but it shouldn't affect sales drastically. At least not sudden. I keep my eye out anyways :)
3. eBay may manipulate their algorithm. We may not be aware.
Another thing I have noticed. The number of reviews competitors receive/month dropped. It tells something. :) |

| aspkin | 05-22-2016 01:39 AM | Re: huge eBay Sales Drop??? Seems it has to do with recent eBay changes.. there are some grumblings in the community board.
"My sales for 2016 have plummeted by 70% or more. It is very eerie...too quiet out there! I feel like Keen Ideas doesn't exist. April 15th through May 15th sales were about 80% lower than 2015 during the same period. Been thinking about baling out for another site since January. Ruby Lane maybe? " |
| popsock | 05-22-2016 04:35 AM | Re: huge eBay Sales Drop??? Usually I hit a high-sales period around April, it just hasn't happened this year, very flat. And this is across several ebay and amazon stores, which suggests it's a change in the public, and nothing to do with my listings as such. |
| yotano211 | 05-22-2016 05:20 AM | Re: huge eBay Sales Drop??? I do more auctions vs buy it now. My auction prices have recovered from last month. Average auction prices are about 14% vs last month. |
| phaz0rz | 05-22-2016 06:09 AM | Re: huge eBay Sales Drop??? I hope sellers start dropping off the platform. Less competition :)
You guys that are suffering, it may be time to look into a new niche. I'm basically selling all the same stuff as last year and I'm breaking sales records almost every month this year. |

| joesshooze | 05-22-2016 10:23 AM | Re: huge eBay Sales Drop??? My sales plummeted in August 2015 from $4k per month to zero. I sold a little at Christmas but nothing like 2014. I stopped selling in Feb. 2016 because my views were non existent. At Mother's day this year I had some inventory and have sold about $1k which is not bad for me so I see that my views are up from a few to over 50 which is good for my items and reordered a little bit of inventory and see what shakes out. I should also say that I had to drastically lower my price. |

Seems like you need to go back to square one and start again. New niche, new product... :typing:
Good luck :thumb: |

Good luck :thumb: | Don't see how it's a different issue? I started selling in 2010 and did great until eb changed to Cassini then went to zilch. Always had like a 100 views per item and then down to less than 10 and nobody watching. Now my views are above 50 and a few watchers and have started to sell again. |

If I were you I'd take whatever you make off what you have now and start investing in new product lines. I always reinvest a portion of my profits in exploring new products/niches, that way if one market becomes unprofitable I can just switch my focus to something else. |

| e2free | 05-22-2016 04:33 PM | Re: huge eBay Sales Drop??? It's definitely something from ebay side as even new products are not selling as good as use to be |
| glacier922 | 05-22-2016 05:07 PM | Re: huge eBay Sales Drop??? My eBay sales same for me. Maybe your accounts have been hit with too many violations? |
| stressed08 | 05-22-2016 05:30 PM | Re: huge eBay Sales Drop??? It seems to have corresponded with the spring changes.... where they actually STOPPED counting the return rate, defect rate, etc and started 'only counting' cases closed without resolution. Those were what got me.. but like I told eBay.. obviously when you change one metric the other starts to change. Perhaps other sellers that used to be below you, for defect rate, etc, are now equal or above you? They must be taking longetivity, or something else into effect now.
Search placement is everything... now that I'm at the bottom I'm out of business. The ONLY thing I can do is be the low cost leader for every single product. So when people search 'sort by price' I'm on top. |

No violations at all
top rated past 3 years
Defect rate are really low |

By the way, how in your eyes are slow sales but good prices on auctions compared to the past months great? Rhetorical.
To be clear, lots of sales AND great prices would be great but it happens to be my slowest time of year seeing as I am in the Archery and Hunting industry. May and June is super slow. Slowest months of the year in my industry. In addition, sales are 60% off from last year and last year was 30% off from the year before. Th best report from the ATA(Archery Trade Association) shows a 30% decrease and the worst is that half of the manufacturers will not be in business three years from now.
Please don't pretend to know me when I have no idea who you are and I can only assume the same in return. :peace: | | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 07:05 PM. | |
