Hi,
I am looking into selling with a ebay store. I am currently selling with a 30 day duration, when the listing ends, i relist. I want to now keep the listing running permanently without losing my sold and watch count and no end duration. Can this be done with the basic package and is there anything to to look out for so not to mess up the account? This is a totally new area so need some advise please. Thanks.

You would just use a good till cancelled listing for that

You don't need a store at all to keep your listings active forever. Store subscriptions are primarily used to get discounts on final value fees.
To keep a listing active forever you just go into account settings and enable the "out of stock" option. That will keep you listings active when the quantity reaches 0.

When you enable the out of stock option in your account settings, it is automatically applied to any active listings you have.

The store has no effect on that, you still need to renew every 30, or good til cancel (auto renew every 30). The store was good for the lower fees, but if anything happens to your account you're stuck in contact. I need to call and cancel mine on my old account, I just got the bill again yesterday even though that account had 0 sales. I believe it had a prorated early cancellation fee, too.

To keep your amount sold and watch count you need a basic store. Change the listings duration to 'good till cancelled'
If i remember correctly you can add it to a live listing.

If i remember correctly you can add it to a live listing. | I can assure you that you certainly do not need a store to do this. It's a very basic setting and has nothing to do with a store subscription. You simply enable the out of stock option. I have the out of stock option enabled on all of my accounts, and I only have 2 store subscriptions.

Just to clarify, if you add 10 items as a buy it now on a 30 day listing and you sell out on day 25. Your listing becomes hidden right due to the out of stock option.
So you come back to the listing 2 weeks later and you add another 10 to the quantity, you will still have the original sales history showing? And it will have 5 days left or renew for another 30 days?

Just enabled the "out of stock" option as phaz0rz suggested on my sites and hoping my previous sales/watch will be carried forward to the next 30 day. I have heard tho this option is available in the usa without a store and not uk, but will see when listing ends in a couple of days. Thanks for the input everyone.

That's correct. I'll attach a screenshot with Ebay's explanation of the out of stock option.
I've been using this option since the beginning and none of my listings have ever ended. I have a few with 100,000+ views and 1000+ watchers.
If this option is different on UK Ebay then I will admit defeat here. But I've never heard anything about it being different over there.

Phazorz has said it twice. The out of stock option works wonders. Not only do you keep your watchers and sold amount, you can always run back to it and add another item once you get one.

Just_smile and Phaz0rzszsz,
Good stuff from both of you.
BUT:
I have an item that runs out with that setting and it becomes hidden from the searches, until I update the qty. Once I have updated the qty of the item, will it be restored to the same search ranking/position of will it be treated as a new listing and just show qty sold in the listing?
I have few listings that I have had for quite a while and every time I reach qty 1 or 2, I just up the price by 3 fold and either two things will happen:
a) Somebody buys the item and I get dat paper.
b)I never sell the item and it acts as a "place holder" and I can update qty/lower stock once I have few more of those items again.
If I change the settings and let the item run into 0 stock and it becomes hidden for public BUT gets restored in search rankings once I update the qty, then surely its great way to run the store.
But if it gets treated as a new listing, I'll just carry on keeping superexpensive placeholders for few items and hope nobody buys my item!
Keep up the good work, I might change settings on some of my accounts! |

Just an update. My listing had ended with the out of stock option enabled and no store subscription, just the usual 30 day duration. I relisted and when it went live everything set at zero/no watch count. So mayby a store is required after all for GTC option. Time to get the old pennies out and subscribe. Cheer's all.

Do you have to have a store to create GTC listings in UK?

You need a store for a GTC listing in the UK.
Atleast that clears up the confusion.

Wow, that's unbelievable but it explains a lot. I owe you an apology just_smile, so, I'm sorry for saying you were wrong.
I wonder why ebay does that in UK but not USA....
