eBay asking users to text pin at account registration page?

New thing going on? Right at the beginning, when you enter your email, name and number it asks to text you. Is it new or is it just me?

I made a new account yesterday, and they asked pin only when I linked my paypal to it

The one I had was not forced upon me. But it has one of those small buttons to click "no thanks, continue shopping" or something like that. As a seller, it's mandatory. Just seeing if this is a new thing eBay is adding. Must have started at least today.

I had it happen the other day. But have had none since.

I haves had this happening once or twice, my tablet packed up though so I had to start using something else, no trouble getting the pins through and entering them occasionally had to answer security questions as well.

Wonder if they linked me some how. Tried to create a stealth buyer account, because a seller wouldn't sell me a certain quantity, then created the second stealth buyer account, tried to buy and the second stealth, no purchases whatsoever, they gave me a message that the seller only sells once every 10 days! I was like whoa, did eBay know?

Mm78, have tried, but next time I'll check it out.

Miketyson, i was using Firefox portable. I made sure there was no flash cookies. Followed jamesnorth link, confirmed, needs flash to be installed meaning there is no flash.
