International sale returns question

I sold an item Internationally and the buyer wants to return it and have me send them a return label..I contacted usps and I cannot create a shipping label from the buyers address, only shipping labels from domestic regions can be created.

I asked the buyer if they can create a label and ship the item and they said that it would cost $200 to ship back...

Any suggestions guys?

go to the Post service of the country, maybe they have a price list , and if not, you can send them an email, to know the exact price you customer should have to pay.

I use another method, but it is on cheaper items, and usually, if i have to pay for return, it is more expensive for the item itself.
So, I find another customer in the same country, and then, I ask the first customer to send the item to the address of the second customer.
this method is a bit risky for you as you sell on ebay, but only you can decide if it worth $200

Will they accept a partial refund + keep the item?

If so, just give them the cost to post item back and call it a day. :)

I would consult ebay with this. I have never paid return shipping for an international item.

I'd think it would have a lot to do with the reason for return, i.e. if the buyer changed their mind, of course they'd pay for it.

But in line with the OP's recent threads, it's fair to say the buyer may be entitled to this return?

To be honest, I've never had a return request from an international buyer, I think they themselves know how tedious the whole process is.

International return shipping to USA from Europe or Australia is insane shipping fees. So, what I would do is just automated it through ebay and let ebay handle the label. Really high chance the buyer will not return the item though and in this case, sounds like a bad deal for the buyer.

Why not just use a courier which operates in both countries (e.g. DHL) rather than USPS? Surely you could go to your local DHL facility and have them print a return label which you could email to your buyer.

DHL would also be pricey for a one-item deal as well though from what I have experienced...only good for large orders and such

That's the thing..I can't automate it though ebay..eBay asks me to upload my own label

What's the value of the item?

If not DHL then there are plenty of other couriers who operate internationally. Other than trying to set up an account and print a shipping label from the postal service of this buyer's country, what other option is there?

Chinese sellers take advantage of USA buyers on a daily basis using this loophole. They aren't able to print USPS shipping labels so they aren't able to pay for return shipping for anything.

Retailer, ignore me if you want, but I would at least look into the prices of DHL/Fedex/UPS for this return. Considering what you sell I'm assuming you aren't wanting to just give away this item.

Thought I would add to this thread.

I have a buyer in the USA who may return an item as they claim it is defective.

It isn't but there we go.

I did not think EBay had negotiated rates with foreign couriers?

Do they provide a label in this case?

With the holidays, silly season, I would stop shipping internationally too.

Play it safe.
