VMware - UBUNTU set up - usb sick

Hi Guys,

Ive just wrote another thread about portable firefox and this one is about my VMware set up using Ubuntu.

I am just weighing up using firefox profiles or using VMware. If I use VMware can you tell me if I am okay to have VMware users stored on a usb stick?

** sorry its sideways

I created a master profile and then clicked on duplicate? After the duplicate was created i then moved it over to the usb drive.

When I clicked on it in the USB drive it did load up but it did create the profile in 'shared virtual machines' - is this still safe to use or should i have done something different when i created it?

Thanks :cheer:

I'm having a hard time understanding your question here, I need you to clarify a couple of things first

As a start, what do you mean by "have vmware users stored on a usb stick"?

Explain your plan and setup as detailed as possible here so I know what you're trying to accomplish.

Thanks for attempting to help. Well my Mac is a bit low on space so rather than have 10 vmware profiles on the HDD i though i could have them stored on the usb stick?

I'm still not understanding your use of the word "vmware profile" here. Do you mean the files for the individual virtual machines you've created?

If that's the case, it's perfectly ok to store your virtual machines on external drives.

Yes, you can have a VMWARE Profile on a USB, External Hard Drive. I have all my VMWare Profiles on a 1TB Portable Hard Drive.

Yes, it is possible!
Please keep in mind that If you are planning to be lunching the VMware machines (not only for backup purposes) from the a USB or an external HD it needs to be at least USB 3.0

Agree, USB 3.0 is recommended for best results.

Don't know what your screen looks like but you might need to install video drivers...not sure.
