Unauthorized Use Of Your Account....Strange.

Received an email for one of my accounts that said "Unauthorized Use Of Your Account". The email said that ebay had reason to believe there was unauthorized use of my account and that any items listed/sold or bid on were cancelled. Said that the cancelled listings were shown at the bottom of the email. Told me that my password would need to be changed. There were no links in the email and it came from ebay directly when I checked the sender.

Went to ebay's website, tried to log in and couldn't since it said the password was incorrect. Changed my password. Logged in and nothing had been listed, sold, bid on, etc. Thought this was strange. Went ahead and changed password on Paypal and email as well to be safe.

Here is where it gets stranger. I get the same email on another account...however it is 6 hours later that I get this email. Same exact email as the last time, had to change password, blah blah. Passwords are far from being easy, and they are completely unique. Wondering if this has happened to anyone else? Maybe this is a fluke thing or someone really did access my accounts or...I don't know.

Cool story bro.

Sounds like you got a keylogger.

I've run a keylogger detector, malware and anti-virus software and nothing has been found by any of them.

I don't blame you. First thing I would have done also.

My second guess would be those were phishing emails, but if they actually cancelled your listings and made you change your password then I doubt that's the case.

Were these accounts you bought, or made your self?

These were accounts that I made myself. There were no listings that were cancelled, no bids that were cancelled, etc. And I am not sure how soon after this "unauthorized use" that they send the email. Whether it is right after it happens or if its hours after it happens. The emails happened 6 hours apart. I would call ebay and ask about it, but I am not sure that they would even have a clue what I am talking about.

Re: Unauthorized Use Of Your Account....Strange.

Got another email from ebay...same as the last time. Only on the first account that this happened to. I tried digging for more information on what is going on, to get an IP address or any kind of substantial information and all I was told was that there were several failed login attempts from a machine with a different ID and IP address than mine. I only log in from one computer and use the same IP address, so this is someone trying to get into my account and failing. Twice now.

Just change the passwords and move on.
If you want to go the extra mile, you can even opt in to the ebay authorisation key option, whereby they text you a code each time you login.

I used to use these with my biggest accounts to keep them ultra safe.

I may have to set that up if this persists.
