My first neg, for no real reason.

I have been slowly building my seller account, selling genuine and some none genuine items.

My feedback has been perfect, until this morning.

I sold a video game on the weekend, this is a genuine video game, brand new. I posted straight away, well packaged, but was left a negative because he didn't like the game.

WHY!!!! leave a neg???

Now, what can I do.

I'm down from 100% to 96.2% after that, but my dsr is still 5*.

How can buyers do this?

And it's not as if he's a newbie either, feedback score over 200.

In all the years I have been on ebay, I have never received a neg.
I have resisted the temptation to reply, so far.... but I have sent a message to the buyer asking if there was a problem with his purchase or the game, hoping he will enter into a dialogue with me and retract it.

If I contact ebay about this, will this lead to ebay scrutinising my account?

Vicvelcro 05-18-2010 10:37 PM

Yes, very likely would invite scrutiny. You wouldn't likely get the feedback removed anyhow.

GreenBean 05-18-2010 10:41 PM

On what grounds did he not like the game? On the grounds it was foo-foo or other reasons? Buyers always have a reason. Problem is the seller might not understand it. Any chance the buyer might be a competitor?

Yep, your account will get looked at carefully, if you make waves. With that refund you did the other day, you might have a problem :tears:

stillconfused 05-18-2010 10:58 PM

This is a different account to the one I did the refund on, same info though. I thought I should leave that one alone for a while.

The comment left for this one was "****ty game".

I didn't force him to buy it, as a matter of fact I actually lost money on it. But why blame me??
He could of left a positive for my end of things and just added that the game was crap, but not the seller.
I have the feeling that this was just vindictive for some reason.

I guess the only option I have is to try and get him to communicate with me and try to get him to change it. I suppose I could offer a refund, as ridiculous as that is. They really have sellers by the short and curlies, don't they.

I used another account to buy something and he sent it to the wrong address after waiting over a week to send it, then I finally receive it, 3 weeks later, he has a heap of negs and neutrals, I leave him a positive and he doesn't even bother to leave feedback for me at all, even after I ask nicely. So that account is still 0%.

If I didn't need the money, I'd certainly wouldn't bother with ebay.

Is that a actual cuss word?

If it is you may get it removed solely based on that. eBay portrays itself as a family friendly site and certainly wouldn't tolerate vulgar language on their site.

I would challenge it based on that. ;)

stillconfused 05-19-2010 12:31 AM

Yes, it is.

I didn't realise that, I should have done this myself, sh**ty game.

I'm not sure if I should contact ebay about it.

I'm starting to think my account is receiving special attention, I have received a message from a buyer who purchased something on the weekend, asking if it's okay if she pays on the 1st of June.

I tried to find the rules on payment by buyers on ebay, but of course there doesn't seem to be any. :mad2:

Vicvelcro 05-19-2010 01:58 AM

If that foul word is spelled out fully in the actual feedback, you can easily get the feedback removed.

As far as payment terms and time frame, that's up to you. You can let her delay payment, if you like. Just don't ship until she pays (obviously).

stillconfused 05-19-2010 04:04 AM

How do I report it or request that it be removed without too much scrutiny from ebay.

I am going to wait till my other listings end first. I can't imagine that my auctions will attract too many buyers now.

TGMT² 05-19-2010 04:31 AM

Here is a link to the Australia eBay site...

eBay.com.au - Help | Policies | Rules for everyone | Profanity |

If a feedback comment contains profanity, please review our feedback removal policy and submit a request for removal.

GreenBean 05-19-2010 05:13 AM

Not trying to rain on anyone's parade but it might be possible that the word is not regarded on ebay au as vulgar or profane...:pout:

stillconfused 05-19-2010 05:46 AM

I was thinking just that, GreenBean.

Did you see on the news about judge that threw out a charge of obscene language against a guy that called a policeman a pr**k.

She said that in Australia, that is not considered obscene language anymore.

sax4 05-19-2010 06:51 AM

I personally would bite the bullet (reluctantly) and sell lots of low price items to get your feedback up. I made the mistake of complaining about a buyer, ended up with a limitation.

That's the problem. It's not considered vulgar.:pout:

Same thing just happened to me on one of my accounts. It clearly states that if you are unable to leave positive feedback and a 5 star rating please contact me. I sold some parts in a "lot". It sold this guy took about a week to pay then when he gets it he says " to me it looks like some parts are missing" left a neg and that was it. Which is bs I sold everything as stated in the pictures and description. I looked at his feedback and it looks like he might be a grumpy old man because he did this about 10 times to other sellers. Again this isn't some newbie he has about 250 feedback. How can a seller even TRY to stay good when you have to deal with this type of bs.

stillconfused 05-19-2010 09:43 PM

Ebay has to change their feedback system and make it easier for sellers to appeal unfair negative feedback.

My negative customer has now opened a "not as described" dispute with paypal.

There is only one other seller of this game, and they are a power seller, and they have used the exact same description of the game.

stillconfused 05-26-2010 06:18 AM

Buyer has agreed to change feedback if I give a full refund.

Would this be classified as feedback abuse, they get a full refund on an item that they shouldn't get a refund for, because they left me a neg before filing "item not as described". But will lift the neg for a refund.

If I accept and refund, is there any guarantee that she will change her feedback. And if she doesn't is there a way to make her?

FrankNStein 05-26-2010 09:20 AM

They will probably get full refund anyway and if the paid by CC, they could always do chargeback. Tell them when you recieve the item back you will refund and take your chances. Then if they don't do it leave this in their feedback.

▒▓█ NEGATIVE ▒▓█ Gave refund and still left negative and tried to keep item.

oge 05-26-2010 09:53 AM

I heard that ebay will slap you on your hand if you leave ANYTHING but positive in the buyers comments. You have been WARNED! GOOD LUCK!

ptenchick 05-26-2010 10:18 AM

I got 2 st*pid negatives on my now suspended account a few months ago when it was still alive.
I refunded both buyers and LET THEM KEEP THEIR ITEMS. I was very nice with them but they didn't mind leaving a negative at the end. :( It happened for the first time on my 8 y. old Ebay account which had about 400 positive feedbacks with lots of comments in French, German, Italian, Spanish as I used to sell abroad.
I was so furious!!! Now, I am just waiting to learn how to properly create stealth accounts and then they can say buy-buy to Ebay.

Between the anonymous nature of the internet [people can be jerks 1000 miles away] and eBay giving buyers free range its pretty hopeless sometimes with certain folks. But luckily feed back isn't that big of a deal in eBay's eyes [sarcasm]

They set up the rules so A) You need fantastic feedback and B) There is nothing stopping buyer from just being pissy.

I've seen negative feedback like "shipping was $2.10, Seller charged me $2.25" - On a $22 item. So a 15 cent error in postage was worthy of a crippling negative...

You gave people free stuff and they gave you negative. You cant win with some people. Why eBay cant see this as a problem is beyond me. It has to be rampant...

oompaloompa 05-28-2010 03:48 AM

dont you just love the, neutral with a positive comment on it too....

stillconfused 06-07-2010 03:56 AM

I offered to refund if the neg was removed as it was affecting my sales. Was told she would post that day, I waited a few days and nothing. So asked again in paypal if it had been posted and what was the registered post number. She finally answered that she didn't have my address. That was the final straw, I escalated it to a claim as I felt that I was in the right and she had no valid reason to demand a refund. I got an email from paypal today, I won and she won't be getting a refund. I asked for a revision on the feedback, but I won't hold my breathe there.
Makes me wonder as to how many others she has tried this with.
She is now on my blocked list.
