Buyer threatening email about sales tax

So a buyer threatened me that he was going to leave a neutral and 4 star ratings because i charged sales tax and my auction should of said it.............. IT SHOWS IT WHEN YOU CHECK OUT.. wtf?

I just offered a refund, people are annoying.

zoneout 03-09-2013 04:05 PM

Yes, unfortunately we are always running into them.

GreenBean 03-09-2013 05:29 PM

That said, add the matter of sales tax to the listing for the future.

Cut away any rubbish a buyer can attempt to use to harm an account.

We know what ebay would say

Speeder33 03-10-2013 03:02 AM

crazy...but agreed, just keep the buyer happy and give them what they want, not worth a neg feedback

Gamefreak 03-18-2013 10:05 PM

you have to make them know the truth..

YOU DONT CHARGE SALES TAX you just COLLECT it.

vogeltron 03-21-2013 05:33 AM

It does say it when you bid or buy something if you have an address in that particular state. I personally put it in the auction. But it isn't a surprise.

Pretty soon they will have S.W.A.T. team trucks at swap meets and flee markets every where making sure taxes are collected or else!

baloch 03-21-2013 12:33 PM

lol hercules. Explain to them that you charge taxes and it is in the invoice they received when checking out. Give them your business tax id so they can verify you are a real business.

zoneout 03-22-2013 12:18 AM

Tell them to complain to the governor if they don't like taxes.

slapped 03-22-2013 01:04 AM

I had this happen to me, Buyer asked for a Refund of the Sales Tax, I said I cannot do that It is the Law, the Buyer Left Negative feed back saying I Did NOT mention Sales Tax in the Listing (Which was True) I Talked to Ebay about it, they REMOVED the Negative feedback,,This happened about 18 Months ago

I dont sell online much because I dont have the time but for when I do, I never charged sales tax. Just add all of that to the product that you are selling. If you did not post sales tax in your ebay status then it is your fault because the buyer feels like you are trying to get more money when in reality it might not be true. Just imagine that time that your car broke down and the car mechanic said it will cost $300 then when you go to pick it up they say total price is $400 because they had to add this blah blah blah to it. Didnt you get mad? Did you feel like they tried to charge you for extra rubbish?

vogeltron 03-22-2013 03:08 AM

It depends on where you live. If you are in small state with a relatively low sales tax this is easy to do. If you are in CA or NY where each state is like 10% of the population and they both have sales tax rates near 9 or 10% in most of the population centers. You almost have to say you are charging sales tax. It doesn't make sense to raise you product price for everyone else. It makes you uncompetitive against the other sellers. So I just put it clear the sales tax if people from my state don't purchase from me I don't blame them. Honestly I don't like collecting the tax and even dealing with it. Less paperwork for me.

Same happened to me. Was for a registered business of mine - was perfectly clear in the listing.

On the same account, a different buyer threatened with issues due to custom duties :( after having explained that I could NOT send such an item as a gift
