Canceling paid for orders hurt my account?

I've sold some parts or repair items recently with description clearly stating the items defects in the first sentence. I've had buyers purchasing the item and after I send them an email making sure they acknowledge the defects they request to cancel.

The problems is this is usually hours after the listing ends so they can't request the cancellation themselves through ebay, I have to.

Does it hurt my account having to cancel these orders even when I select the option stating the buyer requested it?
Does it hurt my paypal account? A while ago I canceled two orders stating out of stock and they put 21 day holds on my funds for 60 days.

As long as you select the "buyer requested cancellation" option, no harm is done to either of your accounts. If you were to cancel an order and it takes your Paypal account into the negatives, that can cause a problem. Make sure you have enough money in your balance before cancelling any orders.

Thanks for the info, it has never taken my account into the negatives. I always keep enough to cover any holds or refunds.

Some questions...
How many items were you selling monthly at this time?
And how did you know PayPal placed the hold for that very reason?

I sold $2500 or so, I only gave them the invoices for the specific item I mentioned.

The good thing is that you clarify to the customer again that the item has a defect...because, let's not forget that a lot of customers are stupid.
