Tossing Ebay accounts, avoiding ebay fees and using CCNow

Hey Guys,

So I am thinking of just cycling through ebay accounts and using each for a month and a half and then just tossing them to avoid ebay fees. The hard part for me isn't getting ebay to approve my merchant account, but instead how do I prevent them from just automatically taking it from my paypal/bank account? I tried to verify a paypal with a prepaid card but it didn't work...I thought we can still use them for paypal but I guess I may have been wrong. Any ideas on how to get a seller account running so that ebay has no real way of taking the fees?

Ebay's skrewed me enough...payback time :boink:

Thanks as usual-

Did you try not linking pp with your eb acct? & select other payment types for the ebay fee set up.

What prepaid card did you use? there are many prepaid cards still work.

Get a debit card from your bank then just keep $5 in the account. Use the debit card and if they charge more than $5 it gets declined until they decide to stop trying and move you towards a suspension.

one experience from last year from one of my eb ids, it's not linked to bank or pp, i paid the 1st month fee in full, then i don't pay any fee after, the id got suspended after 3 months.

I tried simongiftaccount first to link to paypal but it didn't work...I thought it still worked but I guess not for me. Any other prepaid cards that have worked and still work for anyone 100% of the time for paypal?

I would just do the debit card but bank would charge overdraft fees if the echeck bounces...anyway around this if I use the debit card?

simon still works on pp. did u double checked the card all 16 digits & balance?

What's to stop you from just removing the email registered at ebay from your Paypal account? The fee request that ebay sends out just goes off into Never neverland

upsidedown 08-10-2009 07:16 PM

DogFacedBoy, wow I never really realized that- I guess the only reason that slipped my mind was because I tried to do that once when my legit ebay account got suspended but for some reason they re-attached the email address to the paypal account (but at the same time, paypal account got limited)- but thanks for the point there

And I may just have another go at the simon giftaccount and see if I can't get that working

Thanks for the input guys!

I was under the impression that ebay put the fees through by a token lodged with paypal. I never gave it any significant thought. You guys might want to research the ACTUAL means by which ebay attempts to collect fees through paypal and by what process paypal doles out the funds. Make no assumptions. Get answers.

Great info vic- I'll look into that but for now I think I'll give the simon giftaccount one more shot-

Vicvelcro 08-11-2009 05:05 AM

^^^^^^

That's exactly what I was getting at.

Why tick the box to pay the fees thro' paypal in the first instance?;)

nobody999 08-12-2009 11:43 PM

i don't understand why sellers want to avoid paying the fees...
i mean, ebay is making you money, why not be honest and pay the fees? i know ebay can be a pain in the @#*& , but i feel that if you made money on ebay, then ebay deserves the fee.

bluemoon999 08-13-2009 07:17 AM

Many reasons. some people cheat. some broke. some people just refuse to pay eBay fee when they are unfairly treated...

ebaykilla 08-13-2009 04:10 PM

I don't pay them because they unfairly suspend me & give me crummy customer service...besides...I have an issue with paying them to list and sell AND collect my payments on paypal. They can get paid via Paypal transaction fees from me when my custy's pay me..otherwise screw 'em (i won't pay them twice)!

upsidedown 08-13-2009 06:22 PM

Ebay has honestly skrewed me over enough- I've given them so much in fees and all they can keep doing is suspending my account. But not anymore- the main problem I'm running into now is that some customers decide not to pay (I'm using ccnow) and ebay fees just start adding up like anything. If ebay would stop unfairly suspending me, then I'd pay their fees- and its not like I'm selling vero items either

Vicvelcro 08-13-2009 06:47 PM

If they aren't paying and you NPB them, the fees should be credited back.

upsidedown 08-14-2009 08:51 PM

Just figured I may as well just NPB them but I just don't want any of the random buyers getting mad and leaving a negative or anything like that. So far only about half of my buyers pay though- ah well, we'll see how things go :pop2:

Can't we just all be friends and call the bank and tell them not to allow any withdrawals from the bank account? Problem solved :)

Vicvelcro 08-15-2009 02:27 PM

Happened to me more than once. One bank NSF'd at $35 and then added $7 per day every day. I filled out affidavit forms stating the original charge was unauthorized and fraudulent (because it was true); thus should have never been NSF'd. The bank 'lost' the affidavit and claimed it was never filed. They kept racking up $7. Every time PP attempted another pull, it cost $35 plus 7/day. The overdraft reached an amount in excess of $1200 in just a few weeks. The bank never gave notices. I only knew from manually peeking in on the account.

You can ask the bank, but most refuse. You will be told to manage your money better. They make money from bouncing your transactions. Sometimes $40/instance.

You can report a lost/stolen card only a small number of times. It goes in your credit file, so even if you switch banks, if you try at a new bank they see the prior reports and say no way. You will be told that maybe you are too careless for cards.

GreenBean 08-15-2009 06:18 PM

Lack of imagination here amazes me. WTF would anyone attach a bank account to paypal for ebay fees? Talk about make problems when there can be none.
