Isn't ebay going to go out of business due to Managed Payments?

I've been selling on ebay for 20 years. I know as well as most of you that a large majority of ebay account sellers are previously suspended forever sellers. And, they have MANY accounts.

Ebay is so quick to suspend accounts, for little or no reason at all. I don't see how continuing to suspend accounts like this with little to no way for the seller to get back on ebay isn't going to make them go out of business. No sellers, equals no buyers.

I think ebay has no idea at all how many of their sellers are suspended sellers and how many of the total number of seller accounts belong to suspended sellers.

THIS BS of suspending a seller for stupid **** like because they had too many items not received when in the end, ALL items were delivered but the post office was taking forever has got to stop of they plan on staying in business.

I think this is going to be the beginning of the end for them. (We've said that after major changes for 20 years now)

What do you think?

I think you've answered your own question when you said:

IMO it will improve their credibility and platform standards, stealthers aside it seems there is approval of MP with most pro sellers.

naw, eBay will not go out of business... they make good decisions for themselves so that they can grow.

MP is so new, changes will always happen and we have to adapt to survive or make our own independent business. Even then we still need to adapt.

MP will be increasing their bottom line by a few percentage points.
They can more than afford to lose the stealthers along the way and not feel any impact on their overall profitability.

Re: Isn't ebay going to go out of business due to Managed Payments?

Much as stealthers like to big up their importance to EBs bottom line it is just an illusion I'm afraid

You can tell by the quality of some of the questions here that a large percentage are from people who intend to carry on contravening EBs rules

Clearly EB do not like digital, windows keys and foo-foo items and will carry on closing accounts and make it harder to open new ones for people who play these markets

Surely this forum is about helping genuine dealers stay on EB and AZ - isn't it?

If our only raison d'etre is to help scammers and foo-foo pedllers then, to put it bluntly, we are always going to be running faster and faster just to stand still

Buy combs people - lousy times ahead

They did what they desperately needed to do in order to get their platform under control. Having control over payments is the only way eBay could have done it. It's more of a rebirth than the beginning of the end for them. They tolerated our antics for as long as possible but it was getting to the point where eBay was becoming joke, precisely because of how easy it was for scammers to just switch their listings to another stealth account and carry on doing the same thing they were doing the day before.

I'm willing to bet this was the plan since the day eBay and Paypal became separate companies again.

YOu really think this is the main plan with MP?

I still believe that they did it to attract more customers.
Most people would prefer to pay with CC instead of signing up with PP.
I'm one of those people.

Their CC processing is so crap , it'll go through fine 1 or 2 times, but then you'll need to sign up for PP when you wanna buy something.

I understand you might not have had a good experience, but I'd wager that I've probably bought more stuff on ebay than anyone on this forum, and I was never forced to use PP for payment.

Maybe you just experienced a glitch. Or maybe it's different in your country.

Re: Isn't ebay going to go out of business due to Managed Payments?

Almost all of my online orders now go to amazon or Walmart.

eBay used to have better prices, but not anymore and the shipping is so hit and miss.

Don't get me started on returns and customer service.

eBay has its place for certain items, but will never compete in other areas.

Other sites are started to squeeze them out of certain used goods like clothes.

I don't think their long-term outlook is exactly great but probably won't go away either.

As disappointing as it is, I don’t see it much different than what Etsy did. Especially after the eBay and PayPal split. PayPal is a tone different now anyway.
I was banned by PayPal 15 years ago. I’m tempted to see how giving eBay my ssn will pan out. I’m only on to declutter at this point, so, worse comes to worse, I can use my Etsy business’ tin. Curious if anyone else has tried?

Their CC payments were also processed by PP as guest checkout and they have certain limit around 1.5k to 2k and above that they will ask for PP sign up . This is what I came to know from ebay support. Thats why when we get refund on purchase made using CC,ebay mostly asks us to go to PP with some weird transaction id if we dont get refund within few days. Except PP eby never had any other payment processor for cards as far as I know. Many years ago there were options but it was just because seller were allowed to set up merchant checkout for few items.

True point about competitor platform evolution

Ebay is a junkyard,it allows anyone, everyone to sell so it can report sales gain and membership gain,so its stock does not tank!
But if you want to raise money fast,Ebay is the first venue most will consider.

Re: Isn't ebay going to go out of business due to Managed Payments?

Managed payments is about control and not having to be dependent on a 3rd party processor for their future. It's actually much better for eBay in this case and maybe they can turn things around for their platform. I see eBay really taking off in the next couple years as a result.

And managed payments is only affecting sellers as it's always the case.. there are plenty of sellers willing to jump through the hoops to get access to the millions of buyers.
