Even though all of EU even outside the euro-zone has cheap currency conversions between EUR and local currency, there is still a conversion. That's another percentage lost.
The core of my problem is that I buy my goods in USD and my margins are fairly low. In the old days I kept it all in USD; and bought in USD. Almost all my customers are in the US, and my address is in EU.
So I sell in USD
Get hit with Ebay cross border fee.
Get payout from Ebay Europe in EUR
Automatically converted to RON when transferred into Romania, as far as I know.
Converted at bank level to EUR account
Convert to USD to buy stuff
If I made the payouts to a Romanian currency account, I'd be hit with a worse rate when buying USD again for my goods, since only EUR to USD and vice versa have a preferential rate.
And since the company setup that I am envisioning is a Romanian micro company, I can not even do deductions for all these currency fees. They'd tax me on the gross total in EUR as it comes from Ebay. |
