This could be bad news for a lot of sellers. Especially the ⊗⊗⊗⊗ and vero sellers. At first, if it gets off the ground, it will be a voluntary thing but how long before it becomes a compulsary thing. Also it will bring every chinese seller into the market which will screw an awful lot of sellers.

On the flip side that may be the catalyst for an alternate venue to kick off

If eBay makes this a mandatory thing, I really believe that would turn out to be the last straw. When they continue banning every other person for reasons made up out of thin air like they do now, can you imagine eBay will now be keeping your whole inventory for themselves on top of all that? There's only so much outright theft they can get away with before it becomes TOO flagrant.

Amazon already does that. They often keeps your inventory and refuse to give it back upon suspension.

I know but Amazon doesn't make it MANDATORY to use their fulfillment system. It's the "mandatory" part that I think would break eBay should they ever choose to take that extra step.

We can only speculate, personally I don't think it has legs, they could not afford to lose all their small sellers

I don't think eBay will ever enforce it to be a mandatory service.

I don't think so either, but everytime I say "eBay couldn't possibly get any dumber" they always prove me wrong.

Well last time when I believed that, they removed the ability for sellers to leave neg/neutral feedbacks for buyers

There is no way this would ever get to be a mandatory thing. Can you imagine what they would have to have storage wise to handle all this. THey would have to have probably walmart sized buildings dotted everywhere about as frequent as you see walmarts around the country just to hold the merchandise.

ebay sales move too much stuff for this to ever even get to the thought process.

However the way ebay decided to do stuff, you never know. They seem to like to do things that end up hurting them down the line. lol

It look's like E-Bay want a bigger cut of the VeRo sales. The article says it's aimed for Chinese sellers, and helping them reduce the time it takes for shipments to arrive in the US.

Hmm I can see the possibility... They just open a ton of big-box warehouse stores all across the country to hold the eBay sellers' merchandise and for extra profit they implement POS (point of sale? ) systems directly integrated into Paypal's database. The chain of stores would be called "Pay-Mart" and on top of buying the stuff online they'll actually let customers just walk right into the store and buy things on-site.

"Welcome to Paymart! Did you find everything you needed okay?"

"Yeah I've been looking for this rare DVD set forever and I finally see it here but it says it's being stocked for an eBay seller. Do I have to just go find his listing on eBay, or...?"

"That won't be necessary, sir. You can buy it right here!"

"But the eBay seller..?"

"Oh that's no problem we'll just ban their account for some made-up reason and take all the rest of their stuff. We do it all the time! :D"

OR...... You walk in and they see you on their facial recognition system which recognizes that you walked into another store at another location and ask for your SSN. Then if you cannot produce it they send some big ebay button clad vest wearing guy to kick you out of the store pending investigation.

Then you have to try stealth a whole new way.
