7 charged for selling $3M in stolen goods on eBay
SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Federal authorities have charged seven people in California for allegedly participating in a conspiracy to sell more than $3 million worth of stolen goods over the eBay online auction website.
U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner said Wednesday that five of the defendants have been arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud. They're scheduled to be arraigned on April 24.
The defendants are men and women ages 26 to 34 and are from Roseville, Sacramento, Santa Barbara, Vacaville and Walnut Creek.
Prosecutors say the defendants listed more than 17,000 items for sale on eBay, with many goods stolen from retail stores. The merchandise was shipped to customers nationwide.
If convicted, the defendants face up to 20 years in prison for the mail fraud charges.
