eBay Inc. to create two independent public companies—eBay and PayPal

Will this give sellers a break or will make things complex with refunds?

*************************************************

eBay Community:

This week, eBay Inc. announced it will create two independent public companies — eBay and PayPal — in the second half of 2015. This will ensure each business is best able to serve its customers' needs and thrive well into the future. You can read more about it here at Home | eBay Inc.

The creation of independent eBay and PayPal businesses will take up to 12 months to complete so this has no immediate impact on your account. Likewise, you can continue to count on everything you expect from eBay today. Innovation, value, trust, selection, and global reach will remain central to our business. And we will continue to work closely with PayPal to ensure payments remain a seamless part of the eBay experience.

As an active customer, you help make eBay what it is. eBay has always been more than a store. It is a community of people — buyers and sellers — connecting around the world. Thank you for being part of this amazing community. As we begin this next chapter of the eBay story, you have our commitment to make sure people like you remain at the heart of everything we do.

We are excited by the opportunity ahead and look forward to working with you in the future.

Best regards,
Christopher Payne
SVP, eBay Marketplaces

Anyone's guess....but I believe they are doing it simply for $$. Ebay and Paypal are each worth more in total as 2 companies than they are as one...

We should try and get Aspkin to buy PayPal, now that would give us an edge!!!

I can see that potentially as they won't be sharing information there may be reason for PayPal to see more risk on certain accounts more than they do now. This may be because they won't have access to certain information on the eBay side that they previously did.

Complete speculation but reading between the lines...

they will still probably be very intermingled. But as far as stocks go,t hey will be seperate companies. There will be no change.

I think when it will happen more banks will give Paypal the information they need.

Is this just for US/Canada? Since in the UK ebay and paypal are two distinct companies already, I know they were together before (in the UK). If you ever call ebay regarding something that happened on paypal and vice versa, they will tell you to call the other company, wont give out any information and will remind you that their not one company.

To assess risk on each transaction...

Forget banks....we're talking about EBAY & PAYPAL....banks don't come into it, PayPal aren't a bank and wouldn't need a bank to assess any risk - they do a bad enough job of 'assessing' that already.

Umm, this is for money and profit only.

No one cares about all you little sellers on here.

My only concern would be that currently with them being the same company if a buyer opens a case on ebay and loses that's the end of it, they can't open one on paypal. With them being separate companies I hope that it won't allow a buyer the ability to open two cases if ebay doesn't go their way.

Paypal misses me on my big accounts. I think they care, lol at least about the money I no longer force through the paypal system.

Banks may protect our information because they're afraid Paypal will use it against us to make more profit. If banks will look at Paypal without looking at eBay they might over look their regulation regarding what kind of information to provide. Obviously to prevent fraud cases, more banks will cooperate with them in the future. I just think because of this new rule it MIGHT happen more often.
Of course mainly its to make more profit by making investors invest more.

Banks hate paypal. Or at least the dozen I work with. Kelly, my local TD banker says they are a bully in the financial world, lol

Someone on an online selling FB page I follow suggested this is so eB can be sold to Alibaba. Here's a story that may back this up ~

eBay-PayPal Split Not Designed for Sale to Alibaba

Seems far fetched to me but you never know.

Re: eBay Inc. to create two independent public companies—eBay and PayPal

Investors have been agitating for this split for a long time now. They feel that eBay is holding PayPal back. PayPal has been providing most of the earnings growth over the last several years and financial stocks have done much better than eBay - which is why investors feel they would be better off if the companies were split.

I don't see many changes happening. eBay and PayPal will continue to cooperate and will still share data (most likely).

You have to remember that the only thing we can all count on is the game will constantly change. Those of us who were selling online in 2011 can tell you that selling today is quite different. And nobody here knows exactly what 2015 will be like, but I can promise you it WILL be different than it is today. It is the nature of the beast.

Remember travel agencies? Remember what it was like 15 years ago, buying a home, driving to a dozen places to check them out? Or when Best Buy was the most popular store in America? When cell phone charges were 30 cents a minute and you could end up with a $600 bill if you were not careful? When you could sell what you liked on eBay and nobody would bother you? When it was all checks and money orders instead of PayPal?

Times change. We have to be able to adapt. Freaking out won't help.

As @jeffweico said. Couldnt have said it any better. Best advice? stick around on this forum and if anything erupts out of the blue, we will find a solution. Just as ebay/paypal fought to kick many innocent people off their site and the stealth guide was born, expect more things like this to happen and newer versions of the stealth guide to be released. It will be a battle month after month with change after change, but it will never be impossible to conquer.

i think they will simply change the user agreement so you have to agree for them to share the info if you want to continue using pp/eb, if not they will just close you account, i would say thats what will happen
