Just a marketing move imo to make them look better and attract people to buy from ebay.

Marketing move or not it is still a lot of money for those people.
I am glad they are doing so.

Yeah, quite generous. But when Russian air plane crashed and ~250 people dead, no one asked for support donations etc.

..and what is your math?

5% of ebay weekend incoming. What is the figure you are calculating?

Is it a marketing ploy? Of course it is. But if it helps people, I am all for it.

Or when my gaming laptop crashed and nobody set up a donating page for my laptop fixing fund. I went 1 entire week without a gaming laptop. The world ended.

I think its 5% of ebays cut, not sales

5% of something (even if only their fees) is a lot better than 100% of nothing

This may well be a marketing ploy, but does that matter? This will help people who right now really need all the help that they can get.

I personally like to think that this idea came from a place of selflessness

Re: 5% of weekends Euro sales to French victims

agree, I will not criticise them on this it, would be cut of the profits obviously not sales...

wonder what the math actually is.

it could be a huge windfall for relatives.....and yes, maybe if it is alot, then it could be over-generous if you look at other worthy causes that get nothing.....dunno depends on the numbers.......

Re: 5% of weekends Euro sales to French victims

I do not think thay will be really calculating the 5% of weekend sales. They will probably estimate a reasonable ammount of money to give for the cause and that will be it.

Something I fully support anyway..

Re: 5% of weekends Euro sales to French victims

I'm not saying i don't support it. I don't mind anyone donating money to those victims.

But.... why donate 5% of their sales or whatever it is instead of just donating the money without the marketing ploy that will increase their sales and revenue?

I doubt the person who came up with this idea came up with it to benefit the victims. That is what bothers me.
