Legit Swiss PayPal banned
 

I have a friend in Switzerland with a legit PayPal account, real ID, real address, and he was making money teaching german lessons on skype.

Anyhow, after a few payments and withdrawals, PayPal limited his account and asked for more information -- he gave them his ID, proof of address, and explained what he was doing. PayPal closed his account and gave him a message saying about how they will hold the funds for 180 days.....

This is a bit bizarre -- is PayPal a bit too trigger-happy nowadays? Is there a way to reopen the account?

He will likely have to call in and try to negotiate for reinstatement - if possible.

I wonder what sparked the PP closure as well

-no tracking from commercial carrier.
-accepting too m any payments under friend and family.
he should call and let them know he is a tutor

He's got a website, although they never asked about it.

All the payments were "product/services", no F&F.

They asked him what the payments were for. He told them he does tutoring, and even showed the emails where they talked about prices and whatnot... they just shut down the account.

Other paypal accounts.. people who bought his services.

There is something missing. PP must have noticed something suspicious, most probably money laundering concerns or a problem with one or some of your friend's clients.

I asked my friend, he said... It's amazing isn't it, how some people have the same problems as their mysterious friends, and how they seem to know all the details of their friend's problem.

I'm generally with you, although I find it more of a euphemism rather than bull$hit. It's an indirect way of indicating that I'm doing something which may or may not be legal, without having to explicitly say it and risk getting the thread closed. I don't really think anyone in the world is dumb enough to believe that I have a "friend" and I'm posting on his behalf.

Anyhow, I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to get the account reopened.

You might want to look into other services similar to cash app, sounds like PayPal cut you for reasons that they won't go into details about.

You should take some time to thoroughly create a refund policy, and maybe then try appealing?

The problem is he is providing a service in cyberspace and his clients are not local,so accepting payments is a problem ,bank wiretransfer is too expensive for a small sum,Western Union is no better and takes too long,may be consider crytocurrency.
Or have you considered applying for a merchant account to accept credit card?

but he cant find a way to re-open his Paypal account,so why beat a dead horse?

How do you know they are doing something illegal?
Paypal decides there is some hanky panky going on with his account?
It could be his students?

I can read between the lines, but I'm only going to address the question directly, because if he is actually doing illegal stuff then he should already know the answer to his underlying question.

then he would have to find an alternative.
Even if a seller is legit,paypal is not the ideal payment method for services and digital goods.
I have seen plumbers,elctricians,barbers,banquet caterer,photographer,yoga teachers,It consultants,hoteliers eating INR /chargebacks as they cant prove delivery .
The only case which stands a chance of winning INR dispute is IT work,by providing contract,documents of work done and a link to a website he put up and running !

I actually don't know 100% if it's illegal, but is definitely frowned upon and looks illegal.

Anyhow the main account receiving payments is 1000% legit, with real ID, real address, everything OK.

The other ones sending payments, are less so. It seems paypal figured out what was going on.

Thanks for all the comments guys, I'll try something else.

Meanwhile if anyone knows a way to extract cash from around 50 paypal accounts, please let me know...
