Italian seller asking for my Tax ID (codice fiscale)
 

Hey everyone,

I've bought an item on Ebay.it having it shipped to a freight forwarder in Italy.

The seller now asking me to provide "codice fiscale" (which is basically italian Tax ID from what I understand) for an invoice.

I don't have any, obviously.

I can message the seller saying that I'm not an Italian citizen and I can't provide a "codice fiscale", but in this case there is a chance that he would just cancel the order.

What should I better do in this case? maybe italian users could advice?

Italian seller requiring codice fiscale to a stranger is really funny. Tell him you obviously don't have, it's the truth

if the item needs to be imported into italy from outside the EU you may need the tax code , customs may refuse to release it otherwise

Forwarder is italian, and should import itself with its details. Italian seller is asking codice fiscale for fiscal purpose 110%. But you are not italian, simply tell him that

Yes, the seller is asking codice fiscale for fiscal purpose. Here is his message: "Buongiorno, mi servirebbe il suo CF per la fattura".

I was quite surprised by that request. I've ordered many items on Ebay.it with shipping to italian forwarder and never I had any problem.

Messaging the seller that I don't have a CF seems like the obvious solution. The only thing I'm worried about is that the seller could cancel the order (this item is quite rare and I don't want to miss it).
