Phone number for Pp new account
 

Dear All, is there a country where one can open a Pp account without having a SIM card handy? Where the phone number can be added later on? It seems that the phone number controls the country the account will be registered in, as it's the first thing Pp asks. For example, I'm in Thailand and the first requirement is to provide a phone number for SMS verification. If I have a Philippine SIM card, the SMS will go to that number and the account will be a Philippines account, not a Thai account, even though the IP is in Thailand.
So is there a country where the phone number is not the first requirement?

It doesn't work that way for me

I can open an Italian PayPal using a UK number... no problem

IP has to match the country

yes, just add a SIM card from whatever country you are in

My personal experience is that until about 2020, you could open an account with whatever data, cellphone number etc. Then fix it later, responding to Pp request to submit docs, bills, and phone verification by SMS. These request were linked to the volume of money passing through the account. Now the first request, even before inserting an email address, is the phone number. It is the SIM you have that establish the country of that account, regardless of where you are. So if you use a UK SIM in Italy, the account will be a UK account, not an Italian one. I have been using an account opened with a Philippines SIM but accessing it from Thailand, as I couldn't find a Philippines VPN. So the IP doesn't necessarily need to match the country phone number. If it does it is better, but it is not essential.

I don't know of a country where you can open a PayPal account without needing a phone number for verification at some point. While I cannot provide a definitive list, it's generally expected for security reasons. PayPal usually requires a phone number to verify your identity and location. You are right that the phone number can influence the account's registered country.

Many of us who open our Paypal account years ago,there was no verification,in fact the applicant and referrer each get $10 bonus.
We become verified with we add our credit card,we become confirmed when we add a bank account.

It was the other way around. Bank account verified, credit card confirmed.

Thread is years old. It was resurrected by someone trying to get their post count up. I wonder why? :rolleyes:

Ebayorbust is correct - verification with bank and confirmation with cc - the phrase "Verify that sht" was meant for using a virtual bank way back...agent being called out :doh:
