| | | | | crazy4discus | 03-16-2009 08:57 PM | I need help! Please read! Thank you! Hi there everyone! I am new to this forum but have been reading a lot and this is a great site! I have a problem and i hope anyone who has any information to help me or had the same experience let me know what i should do... I was selling on ebay about 4 months ago and my account got suspended by vero..
I was selling video games, game systems, clothes, cell phone etc... So after i got suspended i thought that was the end of it but today i receive a letter from some random person who claims that i sold her a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ lacoste shirt in the past.. And this person said that she also works with paypal to buy counterfit items to report them.. Then in the letter she said she got an attorney from this law firm.. Greenberg Traurig - Home Page - Greenberg Traurig, LLP and she is going to sue me for 1 million dollars and i have to give up my ebay account and paypal account and forfit any items that i have to her.. But then on the bottom of the letter she stated if i am willing to pay her 7,500 dollars right now she will drop the lawsuit against me..
So as of right now i do not know what to do.. I did not even know i sold her a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ lacoste shirt.. I was selling lacoste shirts but i only sold like 7 and i bought them threw power seller threw ebay.. So i am very scared right now and do not know what to do.. This whole thing sounds so crazy to me.. I did not know someone can do this to someone esle.. Any help is very much appreciated.. Thank you! |
| TGMT² | 03-16-2009 09:15 PM | It would take me 5 days before I stopped laughing if I received a letter like that! LOL
Come-On...You can't believe you're not being scammed. |
She is trying to scam you out of $7,500.. Tell her that you will be happy to show the Judge her letter...Million bucks? Don't be scared.. She could have pulled any Law Firm over Internet. I'd ignore it. |
| crazy4discus | 03-16-2009 09:25 PM | I really think its a scam too but i am just worried anyways because i have never ever been in this situation befor... I was thinking it is really fishy because how can she sue me for 1 million dollars for a shirt she only paid 25 dollars for.. And she also claims that she works with paypal and has an attorney already and will prosucute me for a million dollars unless i pay her the 7500 dollars right now and she will drop everything.. So are you guys saying i have nothing to worry about and this is only a scam? I was not a power seller or anthing also. I only had about 41 feedback in a 6 month period and was 100 percent positive.. |
| Here We Go Again | 03-16-2009 10:14 PM | I think I need to go change pants... I laughed to hard. |
| spidey773 | 03-16-2009 10:22 PM | dont even worry about it... the odds of getting sue are slim to none... The burden of proof is rediculas... if they sue, they can not win |
| crazy4discus | 03-16-2009 10:26 PM | Wow these scammers are going out of there way then huh? The letter she sent me looks really legit though! its has a telephone number address and everything... Well thank you everyone for the quick response! I was really worried that they were really going to take me to court to try and sue me for a million dollars.. Theres no way in hell that i have that kind of money.. During the 6 months with that account i made like only 400 dollars a month thats all.. |
| Burning | 03-16-2009 10:42 PM | That made me laugh so hard. Anyone can just make a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ phone number and address. I can make a toll free number online. |
| Here We Go Again | 03-16-2009 10:52 PM | You will also get emails telling you the following: You have won the UK Lottery
If I send you a $100,000 check will you deposit it for me.
I am suing you for 1 million dollars for selling VERO items on eBay
DO NOT fall for the above scams. |
| philly387 | 03-16-2009 11:00 PM | This is just my opinion, but if someone is that serious about a law suit, I would think you would receive a phone call at least. |
| TMiles | 03-17-2009 07:16 AM | One million dollars....One billion dollars in the immortal words of Doctor Evil...Seriously dude, an individual can only sue for actual damages in a case like this..... |
| JohnnyBoy | 03-17-2009 07:28 AM | "sue me for 1 million dollars" ... "forfit any items that i have to her"... "pay her 7,500 dollars right now she will drop the lawsuit against me"
lol, sounds like a scam. If she did have a lawyer and u did sell her a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ shirt, all she would get back is the $25. |
| foster | 03-17-2009 08:03 AM | It's obviously not a real threat to you.
I'd forward it on to eBay/PayPal. They don't like people pretending to be their employees.
Anyone can file a lawsuit, but it'd be thrown out for being frivolous. |
| boondoggle | 03-17-2009 09:56 AM | Just ignore it. Do not respond to any of those letters, even if they are genuine. It will go blow over, dont worry |
| crazy4discus | 03-17-2009 04:46 PM | Thank you everyone! I feel a lot better now... I never ever received a letter like this before in my life.. I was really scared that someone was really serious about sueing me for a million dollars for a shirt they paid 25 dollars for only.. Thanks everyone! I will just ignore this person from now on then since everyone here says its no threat to me.. |
| Here We Go Again | 03-17-2009 05:26 PM | ^^^^^^^^^
That letter is nothing.... Don't even bother. |
| crazy4discus | 03-17-2009 08:42 PM | Hi there everyone! I do not think its a scam anymore as of right now because i spoke to her and she says shes the lawyer that is representing for lacoste...That same lady gave me an email today and said that she works at that lawfirm and here is her link Bookbinder, Julie P. - Greenberg Traurig, LLP.. And her name is Julie and she is representing for lacoste.. I think this is the real deal.. She also had me call her at that lawfirm and she answered.. What should i do now? |
| sycore | 03-17-2009 09:46 PM | Why would you even communicate with her. Once you do that they know you are an easy mark. Cease all communication, don't sign or refuse to sign for any registered letters or UPS or Fedex envelops. They they will have to serve with paper for a court date. They are not going to put you in jail for a $25 dollar shirt and they are not going to fly someone to your jurisdiction on the off chance you show up, the win a civil settlement they have to enforce. If it gets that far then, just make sure you have no assets in your name and your house is homesteaded. |
So what did you talk about when you called her? Did you ask her if she would be happy with $7500 in hundred dollars bills in cash right away, or if she would prefer bank certified check in her name? Just tell her that your "Nigerian" friends will cover the rest up to the million....Seriously, this is a joke! |
| Burning | 03-17-2009 10:09 PM | I would never trust her. Do not call her or email her at all. Just forget her. Even if she sues you, they will just make you pay $25. Also they will go after the company that sells the ⊗⊗⊗⊗ lacosta shirt, not you. If you pay 1 million dollars that would not solve the case of ⊗⊗⊗⊗ shirts since they are still being reproduced. |
| aquariusvc | 03-17-2009 11:18 PM | forget it and make new eBay account to resale :D |
| crazy4discus | 03-18-2009 02:37 AM | When i called her she just asked if i was selling ⊗⊗⊗⊗ lacoste shirts and i said i do not know what you are talking about and i do not even sell on ebay as of this moment.. And when i did it was mostly eclectronics which was are authentic.. And then she said selling ⊗⊗⊗⊗ lacoste shirts i can be fined up to 1 million dollars but i said again i did not sell any so she said she will go ahead and contact ebay to let them know i was not selling any ⊗⊗⊗⊗ lacoste shirts and she will give me an email once ebay replys.. But i will take everyones advice and i will just leave it alone from now on and ignore everything.. I am just really worried but if everyone says that i have nothing to worry about then i won't.. Thank you everyone for your advices! |

| gibsonton | 03-19-2009 07:43 AM | Dont Laugh , these are CYBER COPS/ATTORNEYS and what they say is true to a extent- you can be fined millions of dollars depending on how many offenses you have FEDERAL CRIME is a point sytem and they use this to get you to PLEA OUT ..Alot of majors companys are using them now as you can see on TABBERONE's website.. I ran into one who tried to get me to give them $7500 it must be a popular number lol , they represented a apparell company ..the cyper cops idiots bought 2 items from me claimed they were ⊗⊗⊗⊗ as they compared them to present style items ... the issue was they were deadstock from 1998 .I had the original case from 1998 with the inspector numbers return address from where the company was in 1998 and they said they still thought them to be ⊗⊗⊗⊗ but they would take $500 as these companys let the cyber cops determine if they are legit and they have no experience usually .. so i got my cousin / attorney involved and they left me alone .
I had another problem with a different company ,, I bought a apparrell lot my ignorance and i listed some items and the company vero'd them and than their attorney / cyber cops sent me a letter requesting $450 ..i had no proof of these items and didnt want to fight it so i just ignored the first letter sent last november and got another in january and nothing since . DO NOT CONTACT THEM !! Is what my attorney said and they will go away unless they think you are manufacturing or involved in heavy importing like the Nfl jersey guys that got busted in georgia last year or the one at the flea market in Florida before the super bowl who is loking at millions in fines alone . It cost them way too much in legal fees to try and get a couple hundread or few thousand dollars from someone who might be broke anyway but if you appear to be a big fish they will nail you.
There was a case here locally a few years back and the couple lost their house and truck as he had the items stored in both .. he sold a purse to a retired police officer on ebay who than reported it to the designer company numerous times as the cop sai dthe company ignored him at first .. they in return sent a company investigator down to follow the couple as they were selling alot on ebay - they than discovered they were also selling at a local flea market and went in for the kill and contacted the fbi and you know the rest . |
| bigpoppa911 | 03-19-2009 11:22 AM | No offense, I would just ignore the letter it's not worth it for them to pursue you, unless you continue to do the same thing. You are right the are looking at the big fish.
I've received a couple of these letters from VERO lawyers it goes something like. Pay $750 immediately , send us all your merchandise on hand, give us the name of the supplier etc.
My shredder ate all of them. |
