what does avs mean? |
| spike1 | 08-21-2007 10:44 AM | avs is the address verifaction system. it's usually your name and residential billing address listed on a credit card. |
| stealthdog | 08-21-2007 02:20 PM | An AVS check is primarily a numeral verification. that is..the numbers attached to your street address, your zip code and naturally the credit card numbers. the name is rarely ever checked. |
| Chris Hanson | 08-21-2007 03:09 PM | What new cards are you talking about? If you talking gift cards there is no AVS |
| spike1 | 08-21-2007 03:15 PM | cards that are coming with a new dba bank account. i had to go to a couple of banks before i could get one that would not put my actual name on the debit card, just the dba name. i am not sure what address they are going to use though. i also did order a prepay from western union, they asked for my ssn# though. not sure if that would be a problem. |
| Chris Hanson | 08-21-2007 03:20 PM | When doing a DBA account, banks should not put your name on debit card. It should only be your DBA name. I would have another talk with them banks. |
| spike1 | 08-21-2007 03:23 PM | they kept saying as a sole proprietor my name has to be on the card. if i had used an "inc." it would have worked easier. |
| Chris Hanson | 08-21-2007 03:25 PM | thats weird. Everyone I know has their dba on it |
| spike1 | 08-21-2007 03:28 PM | well who knows, maybe i was acting suspicious, lol |
| Chris Hanson | 08-21-2007 03:29 PM | Well I take that back. they had their dba on their checks |
| spike1 | 08-21-2007 03:31 PM | yeah, see. my checks are coming with the dba on it too. luckily i found a bank that would play ball and use the dba on card with my initials on the second line. i also ordered one with the initials right after the dba, on the same line |
| Chris Hanson | 08-21-2007 03:39 PM | Which bank was that? |
| spike1 | 08-21-2007 03:47 PM | ****************. you have to sign up for 4 accounts and put $100 in each one. savings and checking business and savings and checking personal. after 24 hours you can take the $400 back out. plan to spend a good hour there. go to an actual branch not the supermarket kiosk ones. they also have a feature that "unlinks" the business accounts from the personal account. that way you can transfer the money from paypal to the business account then transfer it all to your personal account and they can never touch it. short of a court order of course. |
| spike1 | 08-21-2007 03:51 PM | i hope i am not giving up too much info here |
| Chris Hanson | 08-21-2007 04:18 PM | nah your fine.. |
| DogFacedBoy | 08-21-2007 07:47 PM | Good I already bank with them
now I just need to set up three more accounts
hehe can the extra 3 all be DBAs for three different PPs :D |

you're going to need 2 (1 checking + 1 savings) per dba. since you already have a personal account with them the rest should be easy for you. |
| Chris Hanson | 08-21-2007 11:01 PM | Did they ask for business id? |

the dba name i picked sounds like it could be a person's name or a business name. i mixed some vietnamise with a little spanish and came up with something similar to: "Jun Expeda" something like that should work out fine. |
| Chris Hanson | 08-22-2007 12:13 AM | Does the dba name has to do with your buisness? |
| spike1 | 08-22-2007 12:30 AM | does not have to i don't think. hell i got away with a weird one! has nothing to do with anything! on the dba request form you fill out at the clerk's office just put that you are trying to open a mail order business. the bank didn't really care. they were just happy to sell four new accounts to one person. i think it is a bad idea to use a name that can only be a name. for example: "john smith". that would be hard to explain. try to combine words from different languages to make a two word dba. for example "pho ngyuen" that would be a name for an asian noodle house or someone's actual name. |
| spike1 | 08-22-2007 03:47 AM | hey modee,
if i were to buy an ebay account from someone how would i pay the fees? vcc different from the one used to set up the seller's account? |

Chris, please don't say things without any basis.
Many virtual cards do have AVS. Such as simon.com
Try to pay your EBAY fees or register with one and not use the proper billing address. |
Opps sorry, I meant gift cards |

But basically you just use another VCC or even your own credit card and do a 1 time payment.
I have used my own credit card with my real name on it to pay my Ebay fees for 3 different accounts and my Ebay accounts is still good. Ebay is so stupid. This miss the most obvious stuff sometimes. |
| Chris Hanson | 08-22-2007 02:43 PM | Well my credit cards i use for payment is not registered with any account. I just use my real real credit with my real name on it to pay for the fees. |
| spike1 | 08-22-2007 03:48 PM | do you use that one real credit card to pay for different ebay accounts?
seems like using my real one would be dangerous. |

Could I run and get a gift card each month and and do the "one-time-pay" that way?
I would think that EB would get suspicious, but they see smoke where there is no fire all of the time and then be in the middle of an inferno and ask to put a sweater on:p |

| spike1 | 09-12-2007 08:33 AM | update:
seller's account is open and i am selling one item. paypal account is open (personal not premier) they did their two deposits so i am verified. eb has somehow linked to the paypal account i opened as it shows in the listing i accept paypal. maybe i am wrong but the paypal sign is in my listing.
once i sell this first item i will list 2-3 more before i start selling items similar to what i was on my suspended account.
let's see how it goes. |
| Chris Hanson | 09-12-2007 12:37 PM | Spike you shouldn't get linked. There are too many people on Ebay selling the same products as you..
It will be a cool breeze for you to stay on ebay |
| spike1 | 09-12-2007 09:53 PM | yeah i do agree chris hanson (you handsome *******). normally i would never link them. but this is the account i am experimenting with. got all the dba info set up to where i might slip by. i plan not to really sell much for 30 days. |
| Chris Hanson | 09-12-2007 09:54 PM | Good Luck. I'm confident you should be able to stay on with your products |
| spike1 | 09-12-2007 09:56 PM | thanks!
