Need new EIN, IRS says one only
 

Hi all, how do you apply for a new EIN for a stealth account when you already have one set up. IRS says one only, help please!!

I believe you need to setup an LLC or something similar then open an EIN for that LLC....I might have it mixed up but hopefully someone can explain better.

Thanks, can I set it up in another state and have my personal info all in NJ? NJ wants $125 to do it. Quite pricey :(

That is quite cheap. Many states are well over $1000

Nevada I believe is the cheapest at $100 ish.

Thanks, to confirm, only way to get a new EIN is to pay for an LLC since I already have an EIN with my current sole proprietor account? Thx so much

That's not right. You WILL need to set up an LLC once you get an EIN for an LLC, but it's not something you have to do beforehand.

The IRS isn't allowing you another EIN because you're trying to apply for either a Sole Proprietor or Single Member LLC EIN, either of which you can only have one of.

Apply for a multi member LLC and it will go right through.

Oh and BTW, don't try making your existing EIN the responsible party for this EIN. It doesn't work.

EDIT: Now I see where you mentioned sole proprietor. There's your problem!

I don't see any over $1k, but the additional fees after incorporation easily total over $1k in some states.

Some states such as NY can be incredibly expensive. Not the actual filling fee but the other requirements. California is another that can be over the top.

2012 - Filed LLC, applied for EIN online, started a new eBay & PP.
2012 - Banned from eBay & PP due to VeRO
2014 - Forgot my EIN completely, decided to go ahead and apply for another one online. Received new EIN for the same LLC with no trouble even though rules say, 1 EIN per LLC.

2015 - Filed Taxes, no problem.
2016 - Still no problems to date.

Give it a shot. I feel like as long as you file your taxes and pay them what's due, they're not going to give you a hard time. Not sure if they ditched my old one or what.
