Avoiding eBay seller defects.

Hi,

Just started up a stealth account and started selling again. I really want to keep this new account for a while. My last account fell below standard to due too many defects. What's the best way to avoid a selling defect for an item out of stock? For example, item sells, check inventory but item not in stock. Refund buyer, but receive a defect for "out of stock item".

I know the best way to avoid it would be to make sure the items are in stock, but sometimes that can't be avoided. Not talking about not giving refunds, It's fine giving a refund, just need to avoid future defects. I heard somewhere a while ago that if you click on the sold item, then choose "cancel transaction" and then choose due to buyer cancelling, you can avoid the defect. Not 100% sure how it works, but if someone can tell me the best way that would be very helpful.

Well....if you have 10 items in your possession.....you list only 10 items. I'm not sure what's complicated here.

Do you like to sell more than what you have?

I sell using my own inventory, but also drop ship from a supplier. Sometimes my supplier is out of stock. Rarely, but I'd like to avoid ALL defects.

Drop shipping is really no excuse; eBay is only concerned that you deliver your item(s) to the customer within the expected handling time, and as described.

If you are "out of stock" that is ultimately your problem. This will result in unhappy customers. You also risk getting bad feedback as well.

Maybe you should re-examine your selling practices.

Then you might want to stop or communicate better with your dropshipper as the quantities available.

Another dropshipping disadvantage.

You're the one on the front line, you're collecting the money, and you are the one being punished for your supplier's failure.

Welcome to the world of dropshipping!
