Suspension for giving out contact info?
 

If you give out your phone number and ask someone to call you and ebay sees will you get suspended? What is the consequence of the first violation? I have never had a violation for this before and now I am paranoid about being suspended. I sent it a few days ago and I have bought from this person for years and I didn't mention anything about buying outside of ebay but she did send me a picture of some items she wanted to sell. I know I am an idiot!!!

Hard to tell 100% what ebay will do - might not anything, might get a couple days of suspension, might get suspended indefinitely....only time will tell.

It is a violation though but you have to wait to see if eb sniffs it out. Maybe you'll be ok.

Don't panic yet and don't repeat.

I think they will block the attempt and send you a warning. Now if you are sharing info after the sale then I believe it is ok in that case, but not before the sales because they do not want you trying to cut them out of their fees

If you do it before the sale then it’s something they will warn you for if they catch you

Different reps do different things. I had a rep call me the other day for the customer who was refusing to pay since Paypal isn't a payment option on the account. It's not common for a rep to have a customer call the seller directly like happened to you. Maybe the buyer specifically requested your contact info..

You can still do a contact info request on any seller, I'm pretty sure. You get their contact info and they get an email with yours. eBay is trying to get away from phone numbers being visible to buyers and sellers because direct sales are losing eBay money. It's taking them a long time since phone numbers and contact info has been built into their system since the beginning. Message filters that detect and reject phone numbers and email addresses were the first step, about a year ago.

If you send something, anything, that looks like a phone number or email you're at risk.

Most of the time they just block it, but once in a while they've been known to wield the ban hammer. :(

They used to block my messages with emails in them, back in 2013.

So I started doing it like this, and never had a problem after that lol...

I guess it didn't just start last year, but they certainly tightened the message filters around that time. A lot of things that weren't detected before are detected now.
