Can someone please tell me whats going on with that? How did they even know that i entered ⊗⊗⊗⊗ information etc

ebaykilla 10-12-2007 09:19 AM

Did you enter a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ phone number? You need a valid phone number or risk having them place a call to you and bustung you

aspkin 10-12-2007 10:09 AM

Right.. eBay is now trying to verify information like phone number and address...

JackNoMore 10-12-2007 10:17 AM

Aspkin, I know how they're doing the phone number lookup, but how about address? Unless you're just talking about the old IP check? If you use the proxy alternative provider we've already talked about extensively, they really couldn't check on your address, n'est-ce pas?

aspkin 10-12-2007 10:24 AM

N'est-ce pas.. I havent seen that since taking french in high school.

Though, you can easily see that an address is real or not. If its ⊗⊗⊗⊗.. you better watch out.

JackNoMore 10-12-2007 11:19 AM

:) Yeah, I bust it out every now and then. Keeps it fresh in my head for the next time I have to deal with an overseas client.

I'm still not reading you 100% on the ⊗⊗⊗⊗ address thing. Is this something new you're referring to and how could they possibly tell if you're using a "proxy" like @0L? Of course, if you're not, I can see where that would be an issue...feel free to PM the answer if you like. Thanks

aspkin 10-12-2007 11:39 AM

It has nothing to do with proxies. It's your address. I'm talking about a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ address. You can look up if an address is ⊗⊗⊗⊗ or not.

Try to mapquest a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ address. You won't have much luck. EBay can do the same thing. I'm just saying it's not wise using a ⊗⊗⊗⊗ address. Use a neighbors or an address you know is real.

Hope you understand this... There isn't much to it.

JackNoMore 10-12-2007 12:05 PM

No Modee, I'm afraid you're wrong. There is one and only one proxy that is safe--at least for now. We all know which proxy that is. It's been discussed here at length and no one has reported being suspended for it when it's used right. Just because you don't use it doesnt mean it's not a viable option. Try doing your homework before denouncing my findings again. Aspkin brought up the whole address thing and I thought he was talking about proxies. Which led to the question. My fault for trying to clarify the issue I guess. I won't post here about proxy again.

For the record, even though I wasn't talking about ⊗⊗⊗⊗ addresses the way Aspkin was meaning, I have used ⊗⊗⊗⊗ addresses in the past. Never suspended for it. Like I said, do your homework.

women and children can afford to be sloppy, not us men

"women and children can afford to be sloppy, not us men."

EXCUSE ME? Sarcasm is one thing but outright gender bashing is another. ESPECIALLY for a moderator. I thought that this forum was for people to benefit and help one another.

Chris Hanson 10-12-2007 12:34 PM

Actually the only reason that most people got the invalid user info is because in their Ebay settings they have to uncheck the--receive offers by mail and the allow ebay to contact me regarding offers..

ebaykilla 10-12-2007 01:03 PM

Rosanna...relax..its not that serious

ebaykilla 10-12-2007 01:06 PM

I think the phone number is eBay's way of catching you. They do lots of telemarketing these days. I doubt eBay is doing mapquests of each address unless they are being anal in a user investigation.

JackNoMore 10-12-2007 01:17 PM

To complete the thought Chris started...you uncheck those and nothing will be returned to ebay tipping them off. I know this is what you meant Chris, but others might not. Besides, I'm usually the one called on it, so spread the love ;)

Which reminds me...if you change your registered phone number after the account's been active for a while and you're now making it a sellers account, are you less or more likely to be caught? I just realized this account came before the addition of the private phone numbers to my sales plan. Yes, it's currently a ⊗⊗⊗⊗.

Chris Hanson 10-12-2007 01:37 PM

Thanks Jack. I was going to type that as well but I thought everyone on here would have caught on and knew whats I was getting too..:)

delirium 10-12-2007 02:37 PM

..........what she said!
(Rosanna, that is)

And the way some seem to "bitch" at Jack around here in a catty sorta way I thought it was a sewing circle for a minute!

Still love it, tho, thanks again Aspkin....

aspkin 10-12-2007 03:13 PM

Yeah, it gets really annoying at times. The bickering that is.

Chris Hanson 10-12-2007 04:25 PM

Its really annoying to read the same question 20 times in a day.

and also annoying to try and read cluttered paragraphs of questions that has already been asked by the same person

JackNoMore 10-15-2007 09:49 AM

There are no rediculous questions, or stupid question if you prefer.

imjustme 10-15-2007 11:07 AM

Glad to see I'm not the only one.

Anyways, yes they appear to be checking phone numbers for validity. They don't actually call many of them, but they check with the phone providers if they are actual assigned numbers. Even overseas.

For sure eBay is not mapquesting each users.. that was just an example. I'm just trying to say they're able to see if a address is ⊗⊗⊗⊗ or not using software. If mapquest can do it, I'm sure they can automatically somehow. Users in the past have had problems with this.

Phone numbers is a given.
