USA accounts now asking for selfie
 

I just made an account recently, to be clear my making of this account was not perfect. I don't think this new security check will apply to every account now, but it will probably in the future. I mean, Mercari does it, it likely will be for every account eventually.

"For added security, we may also ask you to take a live photo of yourself to confirm it’s really you."

When adding my bank for MP instead of doing a checking I added a savings. I don't want to open a new checking just to see eBay potentially flag my account because this is a business account. Bank of America allows for an easy savings account add on without going into a branch so I think eBay was unable to add micro deposits. Idk, but just letting everyone know about the selfie. It comes after the INFORM ACT has been enacted.

I needed to send them my photo ID, which I did, and the restriction was lifted within a few hours. **I didn't have to do the selfie**

savings accounts has to allow funds to be debited. if ebay cant get their micro deposit back they will restrict you.

Just called BOA, I think they allow for it. We will see. I've been damaged so much by eBay recently I am numb.

I spent all last night checking the forums, it appears to me an ID check is asked if you use a savings. That is with the assumption the micro deposits don't work. I don't have any red banner showing the deposit request, so I am thinking that ID check was because the micro deposits didn't work.

Assuming that is the case, I think my account is good to go. Regardless, the selfie add on is new, and I won't be surprised if this is required for all signs ups by 2025. Similar to how Mercari has it.

If it's just the selfie then perhaps you have the option of getting a bit creative?

I don't think there is any possible way to store someones face in their system, all it is doing is matching you with the photo ID sent.

Actually this might help us be able to verify photo ID without facing rejections. I have sent my real photo ID on two different accounts in the last year, one account was accepted, the other one was not. Kinda funny how that works, same ID, two different responses.

I used to have all these beliefs about eBay, but never really knew them to be true. After 2020 having had to make new accounts again, I realize they are all indeed true. Every account is subject to chance regardless how great you are as a seller. You just either increase or decrease your odds, but there never any certainty selling on eBay, never.

Update: When I created this account I was asked for my ID very quickly afterwards. I thought this was because my bank details failed and eBay already realized it could not send deposits for verifications to my savings. Well, after my first sale was when they sent the micro-deposits. I guess I'm not shocked, thats another way for eBay to hold funds if the seller doesn't have a verified bank.

My micro-deposits were sent and verified so BOA savings work, and the request for ID hasn't meant doom for the account. I made a few sales and already taking a break on the account.

Slow and steady is the way.

Yep, honestly I have struggled a lot since 2020 and its only because I am trying to move money fast on newer accounts making up for lost time in 2019. It's like digging myself deeper in a hole each account because each time I lose more time then want to make up for it on the next account. Because of this though I have mastered what I sell so now my biggest problem is not anything but managing the sales. Selling on alternative markets has been an okay substitute, but eBay still is the dominant leader by far. Combined all the side marketplaces is a good replacement out of necessity.

I have had to put my newest account on vacation mode 3 times already. Each time I lift it, I get sales quickly after. I think some of this authentication program eBay is doing is lifting its reputation. Personally I just hope its not something widespread across everything branded like Stockx.

I'm guessing the type of product you sell would sell better or can only be sold on eBay compared to other platforms like amazon?

Instead of trying to push it all through 1 account use a few. You make just as many sales if not more without running into issues if you keep it a steady but mid range volume across the accounts

Yeah problem is these accounts are harder to make now. I had a phone call with one of the reps in trust & safety, the merchant support. Wasn't a great a phone call but it's someone I know that knows what they're talking about. Without going into detail, I know for a fact they can search the database and link a personal account with a business account. Meaning if you had a sole proprietorship under your name, then had another account under lets say a LLC, they can easily search and find the names.

There might be some stipulations with this, but if any eBay trust & safety really wanted, they can find our accounts and link them. Maybe its different business to business, I'm not sure about that. I plan to keep it business to business moving forwards anyways. The links make me a little nervous though. Back when I started stealth I made around 30 accounts, ended up with about 3-5 accounts I used for 2 years. Then just had my main account and it's all I needed until it wasn't.

I consider myself spreading sales now by selling in other marketplaces, and also building my own website. I don't need eBay like I once thought, but the money to be made on eBay is not comparable. If I was running full capacity I could easily get 35k+ per month, and during the holidays 60k each month. Never can push that much money though, I know better not too.

linking accounts through identical details is not really an achievement , ebay allow to have multiple accounts though even without use of separate corporations

What are you implying by saying that? You have never been suspended with your real details? Because if you were then what you just said really doesn't matter, I am saying right now we can reuse our same details and open a new account without it getting restricted. You can go through a MC099 and they not check for this information, but I am saying if they wanted to, at any point in time your accounts are always in jeopardy of suspension if ever one of your accounts is suspended using your real name in MP.
