| | | imjustme | 11-04-2007 10:04 AM | Weird as hell suspension email subject line!! I set-up a clean eBay account last week for my wife's sister for her to sell on eBay some of her own old stuff. I listed an old vase for her last week, for a little over $30 plus around $15 for shipping, the normal price. Well, it didn't sell, so I re-listed it for her today. she then calls me about 2 hours later and tells me that she now wants to sell it for $25 instead of $30. No problem, I log into the account (always checking the IPs, of course) and change it for her to $25. She just about 15 minutes ago called me again and told me she wants to sell it for $30 anyways, instead of $25. I know she changes her mind all the time, not just with things for sale, so again no big deal, I log in again and change the price again to $30.
Just when I log back into my regular eMail account, she calls me again and tells me she received an eMail from eBay that her account was suspended.
I'm like "wtf" and tell her to forward it. Guess what it says? Quote:
Dear USERNAME (email@email.com),
Your eBay account has been suspended. eBay took this action after determining that your account was acting inconsistently with the letter or spirit of our policies.
You are prohibited from using eBay in any way. This includes using another existing account or registering a new account.
Any seller fees that are still owed are due to eBay immediately. eBay will charge any amounts that you have not previously disputed to the billing method that is currently on file.
Sincerely,
eBay Trust & Safety

But I'm wondering, maybe someone has hacked into the eBay system and is suspending accounts for the fun of it? I doubt eBay would on purpose send suspension eMails with "HAHAHA" in the subject line?
On top of that, why would even eBay suspend an account for listing only an old $30 vase? For changing the price twice maybe? But still, wtf.. |
kasabian | 11-04-2007 10:46 AM | WOW. That's all I've got to say. |
newebayerwannabe | 11-04-2007 03:24 PM | HAHAHAHAHHA freaking funny. |
koalawash | 11-04-2007 04:52 PM | My first guess would be that it's a prank email.. I assume you didn't just take your sister-in-law's word for it, and checked to make sure that the account really WAS deactivated?
I'm also wondering how it's possible to list a BIN item on a brand new account.. |
longisland88 | 11-04-2007 04:55 PM | he never said it was BIN |
koalawash | 11-04-2007 04:57 PM | Yeah, but I kind of assumed it was since I don't know why anyone would be so picky about just an opening bid "price". |
newebayerwannabe | 11-04-2007 09:51 PM | she probably just wanted to make sure she got a good price for it. |

koalawash | 11-04-2007 10:06 PM | oooooooooo  |
tvaughan08 | 11-04-2007 10:52 PM | yeah..Iv seeen that before....not in the suspension, but it sent me that when someone had there account hijacked by a scammer and there notified me as normal but the subject line was just like that. |
imjustme | 11-05-2007 08:42 AM | It was definitely from eBay. I logged into the account and the message is also there under 'Alerts' and the account is indeed suspended. I contacted eBay about it and am waiting to see what their response is. Either they now have children employed there or someone gained access to their system. |
the fabricator | 11-05-2007 09:46 AM | I've been getting these lately as well; I figured it was just some weird glitch in the system. When you open up a new account go to Live Help and just ask them directly. |
vers0 | 11-05-2007 05:15 PM | I don't think eBay like sellers to constantly modify a listing. I did have one of my accounts suspended for constantly changing the Ad in a short period of time. If was only a 7 day suspension. After that never had a problem with that type of suspension.. |
newebayerwannabe | 11-05-2007 11:22 PM | I had that same problem when I kept editing my listing. |
Chris Hanson | 11-06-2007 11:36 PM | A friend of mine had the same problem too. Editing the listing too many times |
kasabian | 11-07-2007 10:08 AM | My friends brothers girlfriends uncle had this problem once too. |

Yeah you changed the price way too many times. And the numbers in the subject heading is either acsii or binary numbers. Basically when you type a letter it equals a number that computers read. So all in all that subject heading actuallys spells out a word.. But its masked by the numbers.
I'll convert it to the words for you later |
imjustme | 11-07-2007 11:29 AM | So that means she got suspended because she changed the price twice? That's ridiculous and funny at the same time :D |
newebayerwannabe | 11-07-2007 05:46 PM | So once your account is limited, How long does it stays that way and what would you need to do to get it unlimited? |
vers0 | 11-07-2007 08:32 PM | Imjustme,
I think if takes more then 2 changes to get you in trouble. IF you do it to often, it is suspicious. |
Jonas | 11-07-2007 09:44 PM | How many times did you edit the listing? And over how many minutes? |
newebayerwannabe | 11-07-2007 10:16 PM | say 3-4 times. But the question is how do I get unlimited again? | All times are GMT -5. The time now is 01:44 PM. | |
