eBay logged me into someone else's account, then suspended my real account ...wtf!!

I just had the possibly weirdest eBay experience ever. I logged into an account I created about 6 months ago. All ⊗⊗⊗⊗ information, fresh card number, etc. Obviously, also a separate Windows user account to keep cookies apart.

After I log in, I notice that there are like 40 auctions listed. Weird? Get this ...not only that, but I'm in someone else's account! He's in the same country as I am, but it's a completely different account name, with about 70+ feedback (my account has 0 feedback). I was able to surf around, read his messages, check his bids, etc.

Again, I never heard of this guy's eBay account, I never even knew his username before that. All I did was type in my own username and password and then I was in his account.

So I logged off, deleted the Windows user account, made a new one and logged into my account again. This time I was able to login fine. So I bought a few things (nothing under $5) to 'season' the account. Still good.

Now about 8 hours later, I suddenly get an email from eBay with a MC152 suspension. And guess what? When I checked the other guy's account, the one with 70+ feedback I got accidentally logged into earlier, it was suspended too (no longer a registered user).

I have no idea what happened, but all I can think of is that eBay's login system terribly screwed up, logged me into someone else's account and then "linked" the 2 accounts and suspended them both.

This is the email I got after the above happened, for reference:

Quote:

Hello (username),

We're sorry to tell you that your eBay account was suspended because recent account activity has raised serious security concerns. We've taken this precaution to protect our members while we make sure that the activity doesn't cause harm -- however unintentionally -- to the eBay Community.

You can appeal this suspension. If, after reviewing your appeal, we're confident that this activity poses no risk to the Community, we'll be happy to reinstate your account. For information about how to appeal this suspension, please go to:

Suspended accounts

Unfortunately, during the suspension you won't be able to use eBay in any way. This includes using another existing account or registering a new account.

Any outstanding selling fees are due immediately, and any amounts that you haven't previously disputed will be charged to the billing method currently on file.

We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.

Sincerely,

eBay Trust & Safety team

Wow that is crazy! Well since it was a brand new account you didn't really lose much it sounds like.

I read an article not too long ago about Twitter and Facebook having issues with people getting logged into other peoples accounts. They said it was because of too much traffic, but these people were logging on with cell phones, I believe. Were you logging in with a cell? If not, it still wouldnt surprise me if a glitch occurred because of too much traffic on ebay. That would of course, flag you both. I dont know if that's what happened, but I thought I'd tell you as food for thought.

Nope, I was on my PC. Even on a separate Windows user account that I had never used before. I never even heard of the other username and it's completely different of mine.

Poor innocent man...he must be extremely pissed off right now and it's all your fault!:pound:

That's crazy! At least you had 0 feedback! Feel sorry for the other guy.

imjustme 03-19-2010 10:27 AM

I thought about that too ...but maybe it wasn't my fault? I mean, I didn't even sell anything. The other guy however was selling clothing from what I could read in the feedback, so maybe he got VERO'd and dragged my account with him?

Darn, you think it was your IP that nailed you?
