Upcoming Changes to Feedback on eBay

Feedback on eBay certainly has taken a few left turns since Pierre's initial concept that allowed trading partners to rate each other. In probably the most dramatic deviation, Sellers will no longer be allowed to leave Negative or Neutral feedback for Buyers. There are some other changes, which can be found here: Upcoming Changes to Feedback but this is the most interesting paragraph:

What changes are being made to the eBay Feedback system?

There are five key elements to the new Feedback system being introduced in the first half of 2008:

1. Beginning in February, buyers and sellers will be able to earn up to one Feedback per week from the same trading partner. Today, members may only affect each other's Feedback scores one time, regardless of the number of transactions between the parties. This change will both encourage repeat transactions and reward good service.
2. Sellers will no longer be able to leave negative or neutral Feedback for buyers. This change will occur in May, 2008.
3. Removal of negative and neutral Feedback left by members who are suspended or who fail to respond to the Unpaid Item Process (UPI).
4. Positive Feedback percentage will be based on the past 12 months of Feedback, rather than lifetime, since it is most indicative of the seller's recent performance.
5. Restrictions on when Feedback can be left:
* Buyers must wait three days before leaving negative or neutral Feedback
* Instead of 90 days, members will be able to leave Feedback for 60 days

Remember the phrase, "the customer is always right" How can you possibly leave negative feedback for someone who's always right? Right?

--FOlks:
You know what I am gonna do?
-- I am gonna offer FREE Shipping. (ok, so I gotta build in the Delivery Conf of 18 cents, plus alittle postage), on the small items..
+ On the higher end items, my good customers who drop $900-$1500 in a 30 minute email back and forth.. I ship ups for free anyhow..
---BUT.. is there a way to offer this as an INCENTIVE for the POS...?

Chris Hanson 01-30-2008 06:34 PM

this is insane.. Ebay is falling downhill. But is kind of good , cause once their stock goes low enough I will buy a ton of it, so either way i'm gonna make alot $$

koalawash 01-30-2008 06:53 PM

Who cares? Most buyers are too stupid to look at the shipping price BEFORE they commit to buy anyway! Sorry but it's true.

Jonas 01-30-2008 07:16 PM

On ebay forums they find even people who always gave free shipping don't always get rated as 5 on shipping. Usually they their shipping price DSR is 4.8 when their shipping is free.

So to get 4.8 you need to give free shipping.

koalawash 01-30-2008 07:18 PM

I believe it. On eBay, you're lucky if the person who buys from you actually bothered to read the whole listing before they bid.

Once I had a guy who emailed me A FEW HOURS after he had won an item, asking me "Why the slow shipping??" What the hell? How stupid can somebody be?

Ballsack 01-30-2008 08:15 PM

That has nothing to do with not bothering to read the auction. You simply got someone who was a little slow himself. Ebay is full of dumb ppl. I always find it very difficult not to berate these ppl.

koalawash 01-30-2008 08:24 PM

My point IS that there's a lot of dumb people on eBay.. this has everything to do with why people would leave a less-than-perfect rating for free shipping. It all goes back to the fact that there are so many stupid buyers there that don't think about why they did something.

woox 01-30-2008 11:04 PM

Well this would blow their Non seller policy right?

sycore 01-31-2008 09:59 AM

Seller should be allowed to immediately file unpaid item strikes. They should concentrate more on protecting their sellers from all these scamming buyers now days.

ebayhateluv 01-31-2008 11:09 AM

Yes, agree Sycore- its a 7 day wait to file, then 7 days if they dont answer--so thats 14 days tied up...

Jonas 01-31-2008 11:38 AM

I think if a seller filed an unpaid item report, they should be immune to attacks on feedback since sellers get suspended if they file a lot of false ones.

I've been reading the ebayy boards and many users are IRATE over this "new feature". You think this place is pissed-off? You ought to see the stuff I'm reading on DeBay. Sellers are not happy they no longer can defend themselves or possess any Rights under the U.S. Constitution doing business on ebay.

Is this the real world? If you sell on ebay it's a reality you are "under the gun". It doesn't make sense yet this is the way the world seems to be going. Corporate big brother as a parasite.

I am so glad I am no longer selling on ebay. It makes me sick. And I'm glad I got to stick it to them with harsh criticism and got to neg all the nasty buyers by calling them "Vero Eichmanns".
