Investigating the mysterious 'Abusing eBay' suspension..

I had 2 accounts suspended in the last week, shortly after listing the first item. The reason? 'Abusing eBay'. I checked everything and since I always clear cookies and use dialup accounts, I couldn't find anything. Then it dawned on me. I usually use the same dialup provider to create the account and then log into it (and I have a pool of about 8 dialup providers). For these 2 accounts, I used my high speed DSL line to create them, then the dialup accounts to log into them and use them to list.

I think the 'Abusing eBay' random suspension when you try to list comes from the IPs not matching that you registered the account with and then use it to sell with. eBay somehow seems to think the account got hijacked, or more likely, that you're selling eBay accounts to other people.

So be careful and always write down what IPs you create the accounts with, so you can log back into them within the same range!

It is possible Justme, but my experience is that they suspended just because they wanted to. I have received this email numerous times, sometimes getting reinstated, never seemed to be a logical connection.

I think it is the "We have no freakin' idea if you are linked or not, but something looked odd, so we will just suspend and ask questions later" message.

EBAY are arseholes. If they just let it all go and let most of us sell, they would make money, we would make money and everyone would be happy!!

They are getting all ornery and stuff. Hmmm.

Save the rainforest Just me.

I dont know, i kinda asked that question earlier as well. Since i log in from different wireless IPs. But im sure everyones IP isnt the same as the one they registered with...if that was the case there would be insane ammounts of mass suspensions then....i dont know...

I don't think logging in with different IPs would cause too much suspicion. I mean people can log in at home, school, work, library, away on holiday at an internet cafe, at a friends house. That's just 6 different IPs at the top of my head that the average Joe Blow could use.

I think maybe if you made your IPs look like you from Russia and you lived in American maybe that would be a different story.

I could be so wrong though.

HI: Yes, that is one of the reasons, I wrote up a whole section a few months ago--Experimenting with diff ideas/trying to get throwaway accts suspended ..

i know it's not a good idea to chnage your ip for the same account, but i have no choice. i cannot obtain a previous ip address with my comcast modem. i have tried several times. all i can do is get a new ip between different ebay account log ins. i have been doing this for several months with no problems.
