eBay is now calling new account holders!
 

Guess what new and "exciting" thing eBay is up to today. So I opened a brand new account today. I was asked to verify my phone number, which I did. Then within half an hour later I receive a phone call from eBay! A woman asked me if this was my name, if I opened this account. She said they are doing random checks of new accounts. She asked me if I had posted any auctions yet. I told her I did. She then asked me what the auctions are for. I had to briefly describe the product. She said "that's perfect, that's exactly what I'm looking at right now." That was the end of our conversation. I open new accounts all the time. I wonder how random this really is. I don't want them to call me every single time.

They can't call every single account holder :)

yesterday i did same thing and didn't get a phone call and got suspended.. It looks like new ebay accounts need to be approved by person?? Every one of them??

maybe it is just today Saturday. But maybe it's a new rule that comes with new ebay note. Any one else want to confirm.. Some one open new account and post something.
i guess they are really pissed that 1000s of people list actions and then don't pay them .

What ebay should do is call every seller after they put an auction so if you put up 20 they call you each time to approve it before it goes up.

ebay is like trying to get into the secret service, all these security checks and for what, to just have your account suspended for some bs reason a few weeks or months down the track.

i just listed one item now at 11h 20pm ET after i read your post with a new Ebay account (less then one day) . i passed the verification pin code phone using (AIM Phone) . after one minute. the item was there. i don't have a PayPal account yet , i just checked on PayPal check button and also offer merchant account besides paypal.
tomorrow i will list another item and i will see. my item is between $300 and $400.

i guess it is random...
is your AIM Phone on all the time or you just use it to verify ebay.. they may call later...

You can receive incoming calls with aim?

hmm i posted about this in the phone verfaction secetion i had the same problem i made a new account then used auctiva to start off listing with and it wouldnt let me list untill i verfiy my phone so then i open another account on a id i made back in nov 07 same dam thing so now i have 2 ids i got to verfiy the phone number one :mad: im going to open a new id useing dial up and see what happens

if a representative from ebay called me to verify my account i would just ask her what colour panties shes wearing.

If she's that 58 year old senior account manager I had last time, I already know the answer. She ain't wearing any. :D

Is this just for Accounts in the USA? Or everywhere? Random or not.

3rd account made today needed to verfiy the dam phone i used a giftcard that had a address attched with it used a name and address from the same town and opened a paypal accout and still had to verfiy phone before i cold sell :mad:

did you get a phone call from are nice sexy lady? Is your auction up and running with no problem... all of new accounts need phone ver but the question is will that sexy stripper call you?

Not surprise, i got a call from ebay.co.uk last December when i opened a new account then, i use SKYPE softphone to answer, and i thought i passed. But shortly after phone conversation, account got suspended for "abusing ebay"....did fax work some times, still no sign of reinstatement.

what are you guys selling if you need to open 3 or moreaccounts in 1 day?

it doesn't matter what you sell if you can list it for free ;-) 100 accounts wont be enough ;-)

i found a toll free fowarding and used it to verfiy the 3rd account i made and listed so far no phone calls from ebay! and 1 out of 8 items shows up when i search by seller.

I don't know what you guys are doing wrong. I'm creating accounts every day and never get a phone call.

i havent tried a 2nd pc yet to see if that has something to do with it

what i do is
1. buy a prepaid visa card
2. clear cookies and use firefox
3. get a new wireless ip by driveing around and picking up on ones wireless internet
4. use a aol email
5. get a address from whitepages.com

this is all i do and it ask to verfiy my phone every time no matter what i try to sale

what method do u use to make new accounts?

now all new accounts will need to verify paypal once you list your 3rd auction on that account.

i registered.
verified phone number online.
listed 3 auctions.
then it gave me this msg, saying can't post more until get verified.

this happened sance yesterday. I dont think it is random so you better chek it out.

seems eGay is trying to force new american user to use there gay paypal system just like aussie's

still dosent solve the phone verfiy problem cause i did open and verfied a paypal and still had to verfiy my phone but after words i got phone verfiy i was able to list 8 listings.

I think now would be the good time for google to lauch a auction severice cause ebay is getting weaker and weaker with all these new bulls**t rules

Preach. Ebay is a trying a little to hard to make buyers happy when majority of them was satisfied with eBay's service to begin with. What really sucks is that eBay decided to move forward and left smaller buyers/sellers who made the web auction ever so popular behind. I wouldn't be surprised if another corporation (Google) makes another auction site to rival eBay, a company who has a better sense of what a community is all about.

ebay is getting so strict soon even legit people will be penalized for stupid reasons.

legit people will be penalized. They don't understand that they cannot stop us. They don't understand the more innocent people they suspend the more people will get mad and want to revenge and the more $ they lose. Soon people will be collecting paypal $ and abandoning paypal accounts. why should they send products if paypal can take the $ back. they have brot this on them self with their way of dealing with sellers. so many innesent people have been suspended probably more then scammers.

This occurred last night. I had a 1 month old account. Added a CC to create a seller account. I turned off checkout, PP preferred, etc. in ebay preferences. In the listing I included a valid email addy that was not registered on PP. When I went to list 1st item, I was forced through the phone verification routine. After phone verified (I used Toll Free and Local City Phone Numbers - Worldwide) I was allowed to list the item. I then listed 4 more items at .99 each, total of 5. I list 5 items on new accounts so I can build feedback to 5 so I can list fixed price listings. I did not have to link a verified PP account. I don't know what I did different, but I didn't have to jump through that hurdle.

Still no phone verification here. I feel left out.

imjustme - you should be happy, im guessing your located somewhere in asia, and ebay is not going to pay for long distance calls.

I use US accounts to sell, too. I even log into them with Japanese IPs and use ⊗⊗⊗⊗ US phone numbers. No calls on there either, I just listed about 10 items on a new account yesterday and another 5 on yet another new one today. Nothing.
